More anti-flyer thoughts.....

Well as with most hard to kill crap in this game, all I can think about is VOLUME OF FIRE.

So that led me to looking through my codex and start brainstorming;

1. Multiple rune priests with LL and multiple Long Fangs sending as much str8 crap in the air as possible.

2. Las/plas razorback spam sending as much str9 and str7 (when in range) crap in the air as possible.

And then I got to thinking,

Land Speeder Squadrons!!

1. Fast Skimmers so moving and scooting to keep up with zooming fliers.

2. Asscans and MM: Since everything will be snap fire, 12 str 6 rending shots, 3 MM shots....psst, VOLUME OF FIRE!!

Seems until we actually get some dedicated AA, one or two squadrons might be what tosses a wrench into the zooming flyer game for me.

well you will either need to get incredibly lucky with the dice or really have a designated anti-flyer unit either in the form of allies or a fortification.

Is imperial armour allowed in standard games now? if so the whirlwind hyperios is a viable option if i recall correctly

Just going with my volume of fire theory that with a lot of dice rolling, 1's and 6's inavariable show up.

aye, the problem is you either want enough glancing htis to completly wreck it in a single turn or atleast some penetratign hits that dissallow it to shoot.yesterday I had all my plasmaguns, plasmapistols, missile launchers and lascannons fire on my opponents zooming stormraven. in the end it survived 6 plasma shots, 4 lascannon shots(of which 2 were twin linked) and 1 flakk missile (we agreed on this to test it how it would work). I only managed to remove 1 hull point.

Relying on a volume of fire will mean the rest of his army is able to sneak up on you (atleast in my space wolves list) relatively safe. now maybe if our missile launchers would all have flakk missiles it might be different (we houseruled it we had them, next time i'll be trying out a maxed missile launcher long fangs pack

WD does not say CSM only for Raven or Talon. BRB lists both as marine vehicles covering all armies. And The Hyperios is 40k not Apoc.

No.

WD says that the Storm Talon is a Fast Attack Choice for C:SM, right next to the table of contents.

And again, just because something is available doesnt mean we get it- it actually has to say specificly that we do get it.

We could always ally in a couple of Vendettas- though between command squad, vets, and two vendettas its easily 600pts and 200 USD....

Sigh... Grey Mage is, as ever, entirely correct. The only Codex which may use the Storm Talon is Codex: Space Marines, as specified in White Dwarf, and backed up by the recent Digital Codex. Storm Ravens are Grey Knight and Blood Angels only. All Space Marine Vehicles are listed together in the BRB for brevity, not as a guide as to which Codices can actually use them. Those rules can, as ever, be found in the individual Codices.

Fortunately, my local group has been treating the "Warhammer 40,000 Approved Stamp" in FW books as sacrosanct for the past 18 months or so, so I'll probably add a Contemptor Mortis - around 200pts and £45/50 which is reasonable... ish. For Tornuament play, though - well, you'll have to go by the rules presented by the TO. We could get shafted though, given our chronic lack of AA.

If its really a huge thing, one could include a squad of scouts, a libbie with gate of infinity, and a Stormtalon for the bargain value of 300-350pts. Snipers for monstrous creatures, libby to cart around a strong squad of GHs or WGTDA, and a Talon for AA duty.

Most of us vets have a copy of C:SM already anyways.

And is there anything wrong with the TLAC dread? I mean, Twin Linked works on snap fire as well as it does on anything else eh?

I'm running a vendetta. forget the command squad guys, run a primaris psyker for the extra pyker, and a squad of vets of your choice; I'm running sniper vets with an autocannon. the whole allied detachment comes in at 295 points, and there's room to expand the vendetta squadron if you want to, which outflanks.

-Edit- Oops, misremembered.

Better read the C:IG FAQ - Primaris Psykers Ministorum Priests and Techpriest Enginseers can't be used for the mandatory HQ selection.
