Ethrion
I was watching a history show the other day and this treatise came up about Roman warfare and military principles as a presentation of methods and practices in use during the height of Rome's power, and responsible for that power. Which instantly put me in mind of the codex astartes. Seems quite likely that this was the inspiration GW used...thoughts? Legatus
That is certainly a possibility. Though I can also imagine that the concept of the Codex Astartes existed independently during 1st Edition, and when it came to fleshing out the Ultramarines for the 2nd Edition Codex someone stumbled upon that description and hence decided to give them a roman/latin theme.
