Grey Knights

Recommended Posts

Here is the progress I have made on a land raider project that I have been working on. I am attempting to have a model that is capable of representing a standard LR, a LRC, and a LRR with a little help from some magnets.

The model will be part of my GK Brotherhood. As you can see I am using the Lambda as a unifying symbol for the Brotherhood and it will be the GM's personal heraldry.

I wanted the base model to have some personality, and look worthy of transporting the Emperor's Grey Knights so I have incorporated the doors and pillars from a Basilica Administratum building to add a relic like quality.

Let me know what you think.

Gorgeous! Wish gw made a sprue with similar detailing for the LR kit!

One of your pics appears to be broken btw. Also, any chance of a pic of the front ramp door? I'd like to know what detailing you put there.

How so?

If GW made a kit like this I would have saved a GREAT deal of time :(

I will post front ramp pics soon ;)

Here is a pic of the front hatch as promised. I carved the Lambda into the hatch itself and then used a combination of GW bitz and a plasticard built =][= with three press moulded skulls.

I am planning on fixing the hatch in place, as such you can see where I have filed down the "hinges" on the sides of the hatch. This is so I can level them out with the body of the LR and not have the rounded hinges showing.

Wow, that hatch door is nice brother. Wish I had the talent to pull off a conversion as nice as this when the time comes to build some LRs.

Thank you Brother!

I assure you that it is not as hard as you may think, and I am more than happy to guide you through the process if you need help when the time comes.

Good to know, thanks I'll be sure to do so.

what painkiller said...

I think this is fantastic. I love the level of detail you've added to the kit and the re-design of the side hatches...Very, very gothic. Can't wait to see some paint on it :D.

This is really really cool! The arched doorways are suitably grim-dark ridiculous/totally awesome, but my favorite part has to be the buttresses. Just gothic-up the weapons a bit to match the rest, and you'll have something GW should really be releasing as a kit!

Oh, and consider the plasticard-trim well and truly yoinked. What did you use for rivets?

Thanks for the feedback all!

I am intrigued by your suggestion of "gothic-up the weapons a bit". How does one gothic-up weapons? ;)

Does anyone have links/pics/suggestions that I could use for inspiration? I really like this idea and would appreciate some assistance :tu:

I got the "rivets" from a craft store, they are glass beads. I believe that Martha Stewart even makes some! :P

This is a lovely, lovely land raider.

When I hear "Argo" though, I think "Unquiet Dead." ;)

I came up with the name after watching Jason and the Argonaughts, one of my childhood favorites

I was thinking it could be as simple as painting some ornate patterns on the barrels (the GW site featured a rhino on Monday(?) that is a perfect example) and continuing the arch/skull motif over to the weapon covers as well. If you were working with lascannons I would suggest what I've seen some Salamander conversions have done and swap the ends for demon/gargoyle heads. Probably not possible on hurricane bolters though lol. None of this is really necessary though; you've already got an awesome model!

Ah, glass beads! Thanks!

Okay thanx,

So really that stuff will come more during the painting process.

Perhaps I will add some GK bitz to the weapons just for some extra fluff/gothicy stuff.
