INP's Grey Knight Project

A more highly detailed version of what I am going for and why is located in my blog here on the B&C. Short version is: 6 man squad magnetized to be either Interceptors or Strike Squad, with conversion work to make them look like an "A Team" sort of squad of heroes.

What I am posting this here for is to get some advice from our Grey Knights and OI community in terms of what I should do with the heads. A cut and paste of some of the info from the blog entry:

"Here's an initial bit of work on Justicar Tuuri.

What I did was saw off the head of the pewter Justicar model, and carefully sawed off the left hand (with two cuts, one horizontal and one vertical at the wrist). I then added a Nemesis Force Falchion bit for the left hand, and so far there's an arm and Nemesis Force Falchion for the right hand/arm. Shoulderpad will be added later (thought it'd be easier to paint without it). The head is actually from a Space Wolf sprue of some type. A friend of mine had some bare, unhelmeted heads left over that he contributed.

My initial thought was to drill down into the model a little and make a cavity similar to the plastic Space Marine models for the head, using the collar of the pewter model for a border. But I thought I'd shave the bottom of the plastic bit flat and pop the head on and see how it looked without drilling, and I kind of like it. It may be easiet to see in this second picture.

This also has the unintended side effect of making the model just a smidge taller that he would be otherwise in this comparison shot with my now re-armed for 6th edition Strike Squad Justicar.

So now I'm left in a quandry and have decided I'll make a thread in the OI asking people's opinion and get some help and advice from the members. Do I leave the model as is, do I green stuff up the collar a little, or do I pop the head off, drill down like my original plan even though it'd be a righteous pain?"

So thoughts, ideas, statements of "INP you're a nutter!" or something? :)

Some results located here in my B&C Blog. 2/6th done. They're looking pretty good though... at least I like to think so ;) Not owning a dremmel is a righteous pain, using a normal hand power drill works though. "Fear denies Faith" and all that. ;)

Hi INP.... Quick recommendations: When taking pictures of your models, use a white back surface (I use a 8x14 white paper that I put down on a tablet and then prop part of it up on a bottle or something, a bit like a skateboard ramp).. Then take the picture with no flash, but ensuring a bright light source (I use a lamp that's set at a 45 degree angle, front/top of the model). If you want, I also suggest using your camera's timer instead of holding it in hand. The minute movement as you press the button really makes a difference!

That being said, nice work on reposing the models. Looking forward to "upgraded pictures"!

Yeah, I am "teh suxxorz" with cameras. Just not something I work with well at all. Under the stove in the kitchen with all the lights on is the best place for light, I'll try playing around with plain white paper under them when taking photos. I try using the "micro" setting with the little flower thing but... I am lame <_<

If you've got an "okay" digital camera (less than 6-8 years old, say), don't bother with the macro. Just prop it on a black library book (so as to have it about 1 inch higher), 12-14 inches in front of your models. press until your autofocus targets the minis. Put it on timer (10 seconds usually) and enjoy!
