EdT
Hi all, So this is my first post here *waves*. I recently came back to the hobby after a long time, the books and the background having sucked me back in. I've mostly been pottering around making Inquisitors and the like (and will probably post a few later), and I thought it might be cool to have a Black Templar Initiate and his Neophyte as members of an Inquisitorial retinue. I figure that there would be a far few Templars wandering around the galaxy in ones and twos, either as full-on Knight Errants or just on their way to a Crusade the next system over. So I made my duo, and then realised I had a load of bits left over, and one thing led to another... Here's some background, anyhow. May the wrath of Dorn flow through you as you purge the xenos from the planet’s surface. Please also give my regards to my brother Grimaldus, and record my sincere thanks for his gift of the right thigh-bone of the late Marshall Guntrad; its inspirational presence has inspired many a brother to great deeds in the recent fighting. My Lord, you may already have received news to this effect, but I am pleased to relate that the Emperor has favoured us with His beneficence, and as a result the Anacreon Crusade is over. Imperator Vult. I shall not detain you with a lengthy retelling of the course of the Crusade. Marshal Karloman has sent you a full report on operations in the Anacreon expanse, which you may receive before this missive. Suffice to say that the Apostate Ishkibal is dead, his armies destroyed, and the subsector has been restored to the light of the Emperor. Pacification measures on the liberated worlds are still in progress, but this is not a task for our brothers; Lord-General Militant Demarco can accomplish the task using the mortal forces at his disposal. I write regarding an unfortunate matter arising from the prosecution of the Crusade. It is with sorrow that I must record that Castellan-Seneschal Grimbald has passed into the light of the Emperor, having fallen in battle during the storming of the Apostate’s fortress on Abdera Tertius. Requiem in Primarchis complexum sit. The Seneschal was at the forefront of the first wave to penetrate the enemy defences, and such was his zeal in prosecuting the attack that he quickly ranged ahead of his brothers. As a result, the exact manner of his demise remains obscure; however, he was discovered buried under the corpses of several score of the foe. He caused so much terror and distraction behind the enemy defence line that the primary assault force, led by myself and Marshall Karloman, was able to breach the inner keep practically unopposed. Following the conclusion of the engagement, Marshal Karloman inaugurated a capitulum of the Order. During its proceedings, the Initiates universally acclaimed Grimbald Dilectus Imperatoris, and voted that he should become an eternal companion of the blessed Founder. I have approved this motion in my capacity as Crusade Prior; Castellan-Seneschal Grimbald's great piety and sound counsel were an inspiration to us all, and he is truly worthy of the honour granted him by his peers. Grimbald was an esteemed comrade of many centuries experience even in my time as a Neophyte. For four hundred years he has prosecuted the Great Crusade for the Emperor, and it is only appropriate that he should join the Lord Sigismund to continue our calling in death. My Lord, the fighting companies involved in the Anacreon Crusade are in the process of dispersal. Although Marshal Karloman has announced his intention of joining your Crusade at Armageddon, it falls to me to bear the mortal remains of the late Castellan-Seneschal to the Ossarium Magna on Amalfita, to be interred with the Founder. In this task, I have been joined by a number of my comrades with particular regard for Grimbald, who shall serve as his guard of honour; four Initiates of the Order, two Sword Brethren, Apothecary Galen, who bears the Castellan-Seneschal’s geneseed, and a number of attached Neophytes. A mortal, an outsider to the Order, also accompanies us. The Necronomer Enfys requested leave to observe our mission, and to collect recollections of the Castellan-Seneschal from our party as we journey to Amalfita. His account will take pride of place in the archives of his order, and I believe it right and fitting that a brother such as Grimbald should be remembered in such a way. I have authorised the Necronomer’s presence, so long as he does not hinder our progress. I have secured passage for our group on the Rogue Trader Dionysus, bound for Cypra Mundi. We shall part company from them at the Chapter Keep of Arkona Prime and seek passage spin-wards to Amalfita from there. Once our mission is accomplished, we shall endeavour to join you in your efforts against the despicable Ork. The Emperor Protects. EdT
First up then, Chaplain Hieronymous; the reason why everyone's there (well sort of, anyhow- Castellan-Seneschal Grimbald and his anti-grav catafalque will appear soon). I'm not the world's best painter but I think he looks reasonably ok, at least in person! http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/196/e/a/chaplain_hieronymous_by_edthomasten-d57cfsw.jpg In terms of where the different bits of him come from, he's simple enough; the head's a Chaotic one but works very well for a Chaplain I feel, and the torso is from a Khorne Berzerker with the Khornate symbol shaved off and a more appropriate icon stuck in its place. I figured the chain aesthetic worked quite well. His Crozius is the Power Axe from the Black Templars sprue with the blade cut off and two Templar icons stuck back to back put in its place. It's not so noticable with him on his own, but lacking the modelling ability to do proper true-scaling, I make my Astartes using Terminator legs to give them that extra height and bulk compared with normal humans. The power-armoured torsos are a little small on the larger legs, but can be bulked out easily enough with cloaks and various accessories. Next up, Hieronymous' pupil and the fighting company's banner bearer, the Neophyte Luithard...
