Primarch Role(S)?

Recommended Posts

Hi.

actually, the only thing i question is that 3 custodians could kill a primarch...wow. custodians are either more awesome than i thought (which was already pretty high) or primarchs suck more than i thought.

Primarchs are not what people make them to be, they can be killed in the normal way. That's why I believe that Primarch rules should never be created, so much disappointement will come supposedly.

Cheers.

NB : I was absent these last days, just that as my response to Marshal2 Crusaders, it would be stupid to believe some DNA of the Primarchs not being kept in the Emperor's laboratory - this is a scientific laboratory-, Primarchs being scattered or not, but...we are going to disagree I suppose, so I'm done with this.

while i do like that response, and can see where Swallow is coming from in his logic/reasoning, I can already see where people are going to act all "butt-hurt" over the response regardless of intentions.

Well, given that a Custodes manages to repeatedly beat down an Astartes Assault Captain, I don't think it's too much to say that Custodes aren't that far below Primarchs, although I'd personally give the Primarchs better odds than 1/3.

Uh, my comment was in response to Jim Swallow stating that: "Secondly, if the intent was just to send out teams capable of killing a primarch, you'd need at least two Custodians to do the deed, probably three to be certain."

Well, we know their armor is soft enough to be punched straight through (bare-fisted!!) by a Space Marine, so I would imagine a primarch would need only to blow really hard in order to knock one's head off.

Interestingly enough I got an answer from James Swallow himself:

SNIP

"First, it's a simple question of logistics. There are simply more Wolves than there are Custodians, and the Wolves are scattered out in the galaxy already at large, closer to the primarchs on the Great Crusade, whereas the Custodians are largely centred on Terra."

/SNIP

Er... this is happening immediately post-Prospero, why exactly would the Wolves be scattered all around the galaxy? Wouldn't nearly the entire legion be in whatever location they went to to recover after the battle?

1. Gather nearly the entire legion to attack Prospero.

2. Take heavy losses attacking Prospero

3. Remaining Wolf forces scatter themselves across the galaxy?

Am I missing something?

I wouldn't put much thought into it. I am starting to feel that any unsolvable dilemma the BL authors find themselves in (this does not apply to ADB) with regards to the lore or fluff or simple logic is being resolved by the deus ex machina of simply tossing Space Wolves as the answer. Or simply to contrive a dilemma by tossing angry barbarians (but not REALLY barbarians now thanks to Dan Abnett) into the mix to give our Primarch or loyal Astartes yet another hurdle to mount as they go about their action to be resolved in the novel.

Blood Angels have to fight off some serious demon hordes? Sure but let's throw in some Space Wolves to make sure they don't use Librarians those sneaky Angels! Also for the same price of admission you get snarly Astartes yapping at Primarch action to make sure they toe the Emperor's line or else its all over for Mr. Fluffy Wings.

Ha! And in this instance, it seems the Space Wolves are causing more problems than they solve.

I wonder when Fear to Tread, and the insertion of Wolf teams to watch for violations of Nikea fits timeline wise to the story about the Lion in The Primarchs anthology. What with that story ending with

the Lion reinstating his Librarians and punching the head off a dissenting chaplain to boot.
