Blood Claws in 6th

so if you are going to use them , would it be better to run a full 15 man squad ?

I can see how a 15 man squad and a wolf priest outflanking would scare the crap out of an opponent . and force him to deal with them , even the threat of them would be intimidating .

I think this is the best way to get the most out of the Blood Claw unit. Max size = max attacks and max durability. The biggest limiting factor for this choice was always the mobility issue - needing a 250pt ride to get them where they could hurt someone. Now we have a 10pt alternative...

10pt alternative.........?

I was going to field 9 or 10 BCs and a Wolf Priest

9 or 10 Blood Claws and a Wolf Priest - in a Land Raider +250pts.

-vs-

9 or 10 Blood Claws and a Wolf Priest - with Saga of the Hunter +10pts.

It's the Saga of the Hunter I was referring to. For +10pts the Blood Claws can Outflank as their mobility option instead of needing a +250pt Land Raider for a ride.

He means the hunter Saga :) - only 10pts - Ninja'd by dswan ^_^ :D

I'd always reccomend (on my admittedly limited useage of blood claws) to go for a full 15 man pack, because they need those extra bodies to weather the firestorm - imo. even more so now that people can overwatch special weapons (most likely be within rapid fire range so 10 IG Vets = 14 Lasgun shots, 3-6 Special Shots depending on the weapon and potential for 1-3 Heavy Weapon shots) so you need something that will either survive it through AV or survive through weight of bodies (Ork hordes, Nid Hordes or our own BCs) - with Claws we kinda get a bit of both - decent armour AND enough number to survive mass overwatch firing even after a round of enemy shooting.

if you only want to field a 10 (well actually 9)-man unit i'd say just field grey hunters or wolfguard. the wolfguard will outperform them for only 30 pts more. personally, with how prefered ennemy works now i'dd just field 10 grey hunters with a wolf standard,2 plasmaguns and a wolfpriest armed with runic armour, a plasma pistol and saga of the hunter. It's a "cheap" unit that's devastating on the turn it will arrive, instead of having to survive a storm of bullets like the bloodclaws will have to do before they can even try to move towards a target
Valerain, even in 5th you only got to use your JP in the movement phase, you now have the choice, and a benefit for being better placed tactically, for less points.

5e was different, however, in that charges were a fixed 6" range, and there was no such thing as Hammer of Wrath. Now that both have been changed, I still find it highly annoying that you don't get to take advantage of HoW when you use the extended movement range that having a Jump Pack is all about. Bikes don't have to worry about that, and get the 12" move all of the time, and HoW all of the time. Combined with the twin-linked weapons, the extra point of Toughness, the Flat Out movement, and the 5+ Jink Save, as well as the ability to have a Wolf Guard Leader babysit them, their advantages over Sky Claws are well worth the extra +7 points, at least in my opinion.
