Flying Rook
Greetings Brothers! Just finished up two games today at my FLGS... the games were part of our Escalation League. The first game was 500 pts using 5th Edition rules. I easily defeated a 'Nid army with a Hive Tyrant and a Broodlord thanks to my Long Fangs and my Rune Priest. But that was using the old rules... In my 1,000 point game I went up against Daemons and we used 6th Edition rules. It was a bit cumbersome but we both agreed to go slow and look up the rules as we went along. That worked really well but made the game last longer than normal... My opponent brought three daemon princes!!! :D In a 1,000 point game really??? One was his HQ, one was a heavy support choice and one was the HQ for his Chaos Marines allies! For troops he only brought 8 Khorne Berserkers, 5 Pink Horrors, and 10 Bloodletters. That was his entire army plus all the war gear for his princes. I brought a Rune Priest with Chooser of the Slain, Runic Armor and using Living Lightening and Murderous Hurricane. A Wolf Priest with a storm bolter. I brought 3 Wolf Guard to use as Pack Leaders. 1 with a frost axe and a storm bolter; 1 with two wolf claws; and 1 with his normal kit. 3 packs of Grey Hunters. 10 GH with 2 melta guns, Wolf Standard and Mark of the Wulfen; 10 GH with 1 melta gun, 1 plasma gun, WS and MotW; and 5 GH with a melta gun. 6 Long Fangs with 2 LC and 3 LC and a razorback. Fairly standard list but with enough troops to claim objectives and enough firepower to deal with most any threat and all for exactly 1,000 points. We rolled for the the mission and deployment and ended up with Vanguard and The Scouring - which allows Fast Attack choices to claim objectives. Neither of us had any fast attack choices so it was moot. We rolled for our warlords but neither one of us rolled up anything that helped us in the battle. The surprise was that there were six objectives in our mission! More than I expected and more than I could handle with only three troop choices. I won't do a battle report but the game lasted 5 turns and I was able to claim one objective and also took a VP for First Blood. He wasn't able to claim any objectives but did get a VP for killing my warlord. However, the big difference in the game for me was my Rune Priest using Murderous Hurricane and Overwatch! I was lucky enough to be able to foil his assault charges from MH and Overwatch! Which let me using my superior firepower to full effect. My Rune Priest killed one of the daemon princes in close combat thanks to his runic(force) weapon. I saved my psychic charge and used it to activate my force weapon - which is a big change in 6th. He fell in combat to another prince due to his lower Int. The other prince fell to my Long Fangs with the final wound coming from a lucky Overwatch shot! The game ended with his remaining prince locked in close combat with one of my 10 man GH packs. The warrior with the MotW managed to bring the prince down to 1 wound with some lucky rending rolls. And 3 of his berserkers were locked in with my 6 Long Fangs. My other 2 GH packs were both nearly full strength and claiming objectives. It was a pretty solid victory and I was pleasantly surprised at how balanced the rules really are... my razorback lost a hull point but survived the whole game! I think the use of hull points makes vehicles survive longer! I don't think Mech is dead... just better balanced. Looking forward to my next 1,000 point match! I think I am going up against the Tau... I will probably have to modify my list a bit against them. I am really excited about 6th Edition and am going to be picking up some fortifications soon and try them in an actual battle. I am looking forward to reading about your experiences using Space Wolves in 6th. Cheers, Flying Rook *drains tankard of mead* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/256827-destroy-the-daemon/ Share on other sites
