Introducing the Krakens.

I am still working on their fluff but so far they are a fleet based chapter and each brother paints a jolly roger on their shoulder when they are inducted into their squads from the scout crews.

I want them to be more of a ranged army that will ally with BA for their close combat stuff.

Can someone give me some advice on how to paint wood grain for the bolters.

And please some C&C :devil:

Mmm..mmm.mmm...MOULD LINES. The models seem pretty clean, but one of those bolters needs to be cleaned up.

That aside. I like this army! The colour scheme is dirty and interesting, and while the chapter badge is hardly original it's very well executed.

Traditionally, every pirate ship had its own version of the Jolly Roger, not just a skull and crossbones. Might be nice to use that to differentiate squads.

Woodgrain: Start with a dark brown (scorched brown). Then with a very fine brush and thin paint, paint lines in the direction of the grain with lighter browns. Use a few shades here; I find at least 3 layers are needed to get a convincing effect. You can add knots by painting a light blob with a dark centre. Finally, edge highlight the whole item with a light buff / tan colour.

Good idea brother, and very nice looking marines. To add to what winter said, perhaps you're marines add to there jolly rodger with each battle Honour. More veteran marines having more elaborate designs, but still the basic idea of it being a skull and cross bones.

Very nice

So many good ideas!!! Thanks you so much. The hook is definitely going into the mix somewhere and I was planning on giving the sergeants red jolly rogers. I'm still looking for idea for the scout squads. Maybe just cross bones for squad ten and no skull.

I've decided on the chapters mother-ship's name. The SS Jessemarie. Named after me wife of coarse.

The idea of a power cutlass is so awesome.

@war angel: thanks allot brother

@winterdyne: thanks for the tip brother
