Jupiter Forge
Heya all, I was planning to work on my DIY chapter master this month as I said in my WIP post, however I got cold feet and decided to paint some models I'd already made and undercoated months ago yet never gotten around to painting... as really, I need more practice before I go Hell-For-Leather on my chapter master. Basically I just designed this guy to be a "bodyguard and/or Trainee Techmarine" for a Master of the Forge, not to be any special character in general. Just a marine in training under his Forge Master before being sent off to Mars for further training and his Mechanicus Shoulder pad (at the time I'd run out of them, otherwise he'd just be a Salamander's Techmarine and I'd have used a different backpack!). I have also come to the conclusion that sticking miniatures together BEFORE painting them doesn't work for me. For some people it does, but it seems easier for me to paint when I can get to all locations first-hand as this one was a PIG to do on the chest, and it still looks a little scrappy. I have just realized while mentioning the chest... I forgot to clean up the gold and wash the lettering... fail. I'll go back and do that now. But "essentially" this is completed so no more pics, just imagine that the gold lettering on it's chest looks better as the moment I post this... my green paint and wash will be out! Main colours: Black Undercoat > Dark Angels Green layer > Snot Green Layer > Thrakka Green Wash. Black Wash on the gun, gold/copper bits. I use wash far too much as a "Well I'm lazy" or a "This hasn't turned out quite as I expected" tool... and it always seems to make it "vaguely presentable". One of these days I'll have a "training day" for more techniques. I didn't want to make it to an ultra-high standard, I just wanted to get some paint on it and see how it turned out, so there is still so much more room for improvement. Tomorrow I'll do another random figure and try to make that better than this one. Cheers for looking, J.F.
