Exark
Today I got to thinking about Speartips, and am wondering how we can apply them to our lists. I know we do have throwaway WG packs in Dpods with melta/plasma circulating about, but I'm thinking about something with a bit more staying power My current concept rotates around a Dpod TDA Wolf Guard pack/force as our best bet, something that can drop turn one and cripple critical enemy units first and then be supported by a fast moving armored/aerial support section. bob10182
I would definitley agree that our Wolf Guard will excel in this role and perhaps a Wolf Priest attached for some Fearless attributes. The only problem is deciding on how big of a speartip you want and choosing the amount of drop pods. Combi-weapons would be ideal with some power weapons or power axes to keep cost down. Shadow warrior
Greetings, Today I played 5x WG TDA PF+CP in a drop pod. It worked really great for me, the cp really hits hard and al the pf stomp anything to death. In my case this was a dreadknight (plasmashots) and a palladin unit with draigo. Of-course this unit was supported by other units (like all SW units must be!! "the pack mentality"). You can cheap this unit down with powersword instead of powerfists. Personally, I think you don't need HQ in units to get the buffs. The point cost doesn't make the unit that better. (Like a WP in the WG pack) Just cheap and plenty of room for more support in the list. bob10182
Great information, so combi-plasmas and powerfists or power weapons. The character might be too expensive like you said especialy if this uit is a speartip. Exark
Well here's a prototype, thoughts? Thanks so far guys Anyway, the prototype: WG, 4 TDA w/ PWs, 1 Power Sword & Combi Melta, 1 Power Axe & Combi Melta, 1 Power Sword and Combi Plasma, 1 Power Axe and Combi Plasma, in Drop Pod Reason for the 4 man unit is that they'll be joined by an allied SM captain sporting TDA, a Lightning claw and Thunderhammer Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/256913-speartips/#findComment-3127211 Share on other sites

Is the Drop Pod an exception to this? Or have I missed something? Grimtooth
A speartip is only as effective as the shaft it is mounted on. Without well thought out support forces, you are sending your WGTDA on a suicide mission. Volume of fire is still king in 6th Edition and WGTDA still only posses one wound each. Some strong support elements to a drop podding WGTDA speartip would be; 1. Outflanking/Infiltrating Wolf Scouts. 2. Outflanking GH unit and IC with Saga of the Hunter. 3. Speeders/Swift Claws/Sky Claws/TWC 4. Dreads in drop pods. You are looking to put forward multiple high threat targets along with your WGTDA speartip forcing your opponent to prioritize targets.
