Custom Chapter Organization

Hey all, I'm trying to start a Space Marines force and I'm new to 40k.

With the new edition out, I picked up the book and the new rules for allies made me decide to start an army (I really hope that the next edition of Fantasy will boast a similar system).

I was wondering, is anyone else using counts-as and conversion and the like to build their own, unique chapter organization/force disposition?

I'm going to be doing regular Marines alongside Space Wolves, the wolves will contribute a pack of 15 blood claws and a Wolf Guard Battle Leader, but I'm using generic Space Marine models painted in the

same scheme as the rest of the army to make them look more a unified force.

I don't actually have anyone to play with (yet), so right now I'm more focused on building a force that's cool and fluffy and looks nice when laid out. I really enjoy the opportunity that the new Allies rules present

for making something truly creative and unique.

I do I have a chapter that had a company spend a long period fighting Chaos on a world that the warp took out of the current universe for 150 years or so. there commrades in arms for this where the Space Wolves, when they rejoin the universe. they returned to the Chapter changed as they had become very space wolf like, they also brought wolves with them as they had bred well on the other planet.

Hey, I'm currently in the process of writing a custom codex for my Space Marine chapter.

I'll say its a long but great experience that gets you deep into the background of 40k. You won't necessarily have to do it to play your idea, the current codexes are great for playing lots of themes from the same race. But spending the time and effort has great rewards and makes your warriors seem more real...

I would say if you are going to go for it, start with a simple idea based on background. Then let the ideas and rules flow from there. It's much easier to fit rules to a background then the other way around.

Go for it, it's good fun!
