brother hood banner and perrals of the warp

hello .

I am a SW player and a nid player as well as orks , I know nothing about Grey Knights what so ever , which is why I am hear to ask you fellows a question .

there is currently, in a Nid forum , a debate about a piece of war gear you guys have ( I think it is a brotherhood banner ) which allows you to auto pass psychic tests .

The debate is the result of some conflicting rules , apparently in a recent game , between a Gk vs Nids, the nid player said that the GK player had to roll the dice for the test even though he would auto pass because he could still get a parels of the warp result. the GK player said that because he auto passes he doesn't have to roll any dice , and there fore can't roll perrels because he doesn't roll any dice .

Nids have a rule which makes perrels more likely , Shadow of the warp , which states that you role an extra dice when taking a psychic test and that on the role of any double 1's or double 6's the caster will suffer perrals of the warp , if the test is passed and the parrels is rolled , the power still activates , but so does the perrals wound .

no one is saying that the test would passably be failed , only that the war gear in guaranteeing a successful result does not protect form the other possibilities that result from a psychic test .

have any of you encountered this situation , and how do you usually handle it ?

I concur. It's a similar situation to Eldar Warlocks, who use psychic powers that do not require a test, ergo there is no roll. In previous editions you couldn't psychic hood them either because they never rolled a psychic test. Them's the breaks sometimes.

Granted Shadows of the Warp works on most every other Grey Knight unit, so it's still well worth it's cost...

Note however the banner only works on rolls to activate the force weapons. It does not auto-pass rolls for Hammerhand. If you want Hammerhand you still have to take your test. :)

Yeah, I was going to point that out, too. Additionally, although no roll is required, you would still expend a Warp Charge, so you can't use it and other powers in the same turn if you don't have the Psychic Master Level to support multiple psychic powers.
