Mark IV forgeworld assault squad

So, as part of my birthday present my wife picked a few things off my forgeworld wishlist. Part of that order was 2 packs of the forgeworld Mark IV assault squads. I have no idea what to do with them, they just looked really cool when they were released and I added them to my mile long FW wishlist lol.

Im currently working on Grey Knights and Black Templars also, but I made a solemn promise to myself to finish enough Wolves for a playable list before going back to either of the other two. I want to find a way to fit these 10 mark IV marines into my wolves in a way that will make sense from a fluff stand point.

Its easy fluffwise and appearance wise to throw them into my BT but I dont want to do that, any ideas would be helpful. So far I've considered the following with no current favorite idea:

1. Ditch the jump packs, wolf them up a bit and call them a grey hunters pack who was awarded these suits as a pack for some (yet to be created) great accomplishment.

2. Keep the jump packs and call them skyclaws, but why were 10 skyclaws outfitted in armor more rare than any of the grey hunters in my company?

3. Gear them up as either skyclaws or grey hunters (combination of both) and mingle them with other packs. Probably the easiest idea but I'll lose the effect of a whole squad decked out in the same great armor.

4. Put them in my BT box and work on them when I finish my wolves.

So...any ideas?

Don't worry about it being "rare" armor, because as far as I know, MkIV is still one of the most abundant throughout the Imperium. And being a first founding chapter, I'd assume we have a good few still.

Best option is probably 3. I'd mix em in with SW Box sets and even kitbash them with different arms, legs, torso's etc, and spread the MkIV love around.

Forgeworld disagrees with you:

Despite being intended as the pinnacle of power armour technology, and containing many advanced systems, MkIV armour remains a valued rarity among most Chapters.

I say you split them up, actually. The older armor sets are issued out to as a sign of reverance or reward for some great feat of heroism, so use the set to make up your Elites for both armies.

Fluffwise, you'd be better off scattering the MkIV across both armies anyway, I highly doubt an entire squad would be outfitted with it since they're considered chapter relics.

Throw three into your Wolf Guard, put one in a Grey Hunter Squad and one in another, then put the rest in your Sword Brethren or use them to make HQs.

An Iron Priest or Techmarine would also look very awesome with MkIV armor, if you feel like kitbashing one.

I would say a unit of these would look really cool as skyclaws/wolf guard jump infantry.

You will probably want to magnetise everything on them from legs and jump-packs to arms. Mix them with a box of PA SWs. that way you can switch them from being skyclaws / wg / gh or even characters. Will also mean that IF you want to use them as BT you can always magnetise some BT parts as well.

I was referring to this.

Many of the Space Marine Legions were entirely or partially re-equipped with it, although the order of which Legions recieved the armour would shortly prove to be of significance.1 As a result of its widespread production and use prior to and during the Horus Heresy, Mk. 4 suits are the most common of the pre-Heresy armour Marks still in service during the 41st Millennium. -From Lexicanum

Space Wolves being a first founding Legion and maintaining a sizeable force after the Heresy, I can see them maintaining a large number of Mk IV. And I can also see them not really revering it over say any other marks, rather if it has been forged as Runic Armor. Which would be more revered? Mk IV plain jane or Mk 7 Runic Armor? Just my thoughts though, it's up to the OP at this point.

Ehh.. I think even the Vylka Fenryka values rare wargear items, just look at our armory. Likely they would take the rarer armor sets and use them to make runic armor and such.

Besides, the term "Most common" does not mean much when that entry is referring to a thousand different chapters. Just means the MkIV is seen more than MkII suits.
