Rune Priests and psyker cards

Question about 6th. I have yet to buy the new book and I am wondering about the psychic cards.

Personally, I think the card system is stupid, and it's one element that makes me hesitant about the new book. The Rune Priest psychic powers are my most favorite ones in the entire game, but as I understand the new card system overrides codex entires on psychic powers.

Is it possible to play without the psychic cards or no?

You are actually asking two partially unrelated questions -

1. Do you need the Psychic deck to play the game?

-No. The Psychic deck cards are simply play aids, having the relevant rule for a single power for reference purposes.

2. Do the BRB Psychic powers override the Codex powers?

-No. You have the choice of using either the Psychic powers as presented in the Codex, or exchanging them (all of them) for a number of Powers from the BRB. You can do either/or, but you can not mix Codex and BRB Powers on the same Psycher.

I bought the psychic cards and I really like them. They are not required as all the psychic powers are listed in the BRB(Big Rule Book) or BYB(Big Yellow Book) [Not sure what is the commonly accepted term as I have seen both used.] But having the cards just means that you don't have to flip back and forth through the rule book as often. Since the rules are new I find that I have to flip back and forth through the book often! I always keep each of my units stats and characters on index cards. Which I find is not only helpful to keep track of the unit's capabilities but also their individual performances. For example, one of my characters killed a Wraithlord in close combat so I started calling him the Wraith Slayer, etc. Which means that many models have their own "sagas!" So I once I choose my psychic powers, I just add it to my stack of index cards.
