greendestiny
So far this is what I have in models: Before you say "It depends on your play style." I don't have one. I have only played 2 games in the past 5 years. I have mostly wanted to just build and paint models. However, 6th has me excited to actually play with my toys. So with that said I welcome any advice. I know lots of you are so knowledgeable, I am not trying to build a boring tournament list (please do not take offense if you are a tournament player. I just don't want to play a spam list that is 12 of the same unit). I want something that is fun, yet competitive, take all comers army. Fluff is really important to me so I want to be able to tell a story with my little plastic soldiers. Please help me make this FUN!! Space Wolves: Terminators: 7x TLB/TF 5x Twin LC 5x TH/SS 2x HF/CF 1x Combiplasma/ LC 1x Combiplasma/ PW -could easily be changed to a power axe or whatever. 1x Combiplasma/ CF 1x Combimelta/LC 1x CML/ Twin LC I have 8 Terminators left over. I wanted to build at least. 1x Wolf Lord or WG Battle Leader 1x Wolf Priest 1x Rune Priest Maybe some Lone Wolves? That still leaves me with 5 WG Terminators and how to build them. Please help me with those last 5 and how to kit them out. 40 GH - Can do any build 25 BC - could be done as GH instead if needed. Enough stuff to do 2, 10 man units of LF 10 scouts 10 Sky Claw 3 Swift Claw Allies: I will be using Blood Angels as my allies. Mostly because I have some BA stuff sitting around that I bought to paint just because I liked it. So here is the BA stuff: 10x DC 10x SG 10x Sniper Scouts 1x Baal Pred any load out (magnetized) 1x Attack Bike Available (not built, or really thought about) 2x Land Raiders 6x Pred/Vindicators/Razorbacks/Rhinos (will be magnetized to be kitted out any direction) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/257083-building-my-red-wolves/ Share on other sites
Wulfebane
You've got more models than I could ever hope to own, so as far as I'm concerned, you don't need any help. I only have two comments. One, I am utterly baffled that among all those terminators, you don't have a single assault cannon. Consider - A WGTDA with AC leading a pack of GH. Makes him a 'character' (regardless of ongoing WG debate), which makes all 4 of his shots both Precision and Rending. Still applies on Overwatch. Also, imagine what a WP or battle standard's rerolls could do for him in Overwatch. Sure, the tda means he can't make a Sweeping Advance, but for a pack sitting on an objective, its of little consequence. Two, you also seem to be lacking PAWG and TWC. You've got plenty of spare PA models out of the 65 you mentioned (the GHs and BCs). I'd maybe grab 5-10 for some PAWG for when you want to have a pack leader riding shotty in a rhino/pod with your GHs and/or to take a character Challenge instead of one of your attached ICs to save them the headache. As for the TWC, they're just a hell of a lot of fun, and brutal. greendestiny
Thanks Wolfebane I was hoping you would reply. I have only built the Terminators listed so I can still change anything else on the list since they are still on sprue. I have two assult cannon arms that I can put on WGTDA and I have a chaos autocannon arm that will be counts as assult cannon since we don't get one but I liked the way the bith looked. I have been picking up models for a few years as I find sales. I haven't paid full retail on any of this stuff. I would like to have more CML on my WGTDA but I only had one. Since I haven't built any of the other models I was hoping for advice on how to build my units. I know I have the models to do it pretty much however I want to. I just don't know what load outs are good choices. Or really how to use them effectively. I want to learn to play so I can teach my sons who are hitting early teen years soon. So my models aren't just something that sits on the shelf after I paint them. Thanks for the input. I will get to work on the WGTDA with AC. What should I put in the other hand on those guys? greendestiny
actually that is great advice. I purchased magnets. what size is best for TDA arms? I have 1/8 and 1/16? The little ones look like they would work well for regular size guys but I am not sure they are strong enough for the big TDA arms. Pall Ironbear
The smaller magnets will hold TDA arms on, but they will probably droop. Not sure if it's a typo, but the max number of Long Fangs in a squad is 6, 1x pack leader, 5 heavy weapons. I would take 10 of your Blood Claws and use them, as Wulfebane says, to make PAWG. But also one or two to make PA Rune/Wolf priests. Gives you some more HQ options, especially good if you upgrade to Runic Armour instead of TDA Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/257083-building-my-red-wolves/#findComment-3128598 Share on other sites

The little ones look like they would work well for regular size guys but I am not sure they are strong enough for the big TDA arms. The ones I use (I believe) are 1/8" diag, 1/16" thick and they do not droop. For pewter arms, I sometimes add a smaller (1/16" diag) magnet pair at the shoulderblade area once I have the preferred arm sets in position. greendestiny
Pall Ironbear: No typeo I just haven't really read the rules that good so I was thinking they could be in squads of 10 but 5 heavies + leader is better anyway. Thanks for the advice. Oh and I love your "Air Wolf" model. It is much cooler than the original and I used to love that show when I was a kid. Just don't forget to use "whisper mode." Thanks Wolfebane, I will use the 1/8 mags for the TDA arms. Also do you mind if I use some of your scout conversion ideas? I really like how yours turned out. I have been building up models for this army for a long time. I tend to do things in phases. Buy, build, paint, and this time I actually hope to play lol. Here is a combi melta/LC TDA I built this weekend. I used the Infernus Pistol from the DA Death Company. http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x277/greendestiny_bucket/IMAG0002.jpghttp://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x277/greendestiny_bucket/IMAG0001.jpghttp://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x277/greendestiny_bucket/IMAG0004-1.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/257083-building-my-red-wolves/#findComment-3128717 Share on other sites
greendestiny
Is it considered a blog if you are the only one posting? lol Anyway finally got the magnets in that I ordered so I can continue building Red Wolves. Have any of you modeled the stormbolter or bolter variant in the left hand rather than the right? Wulfebane
Once you go magnets, you never go back. =P And sure, you can use my scout converts. Go nuts! Not sure what you mean about the stormbolter... You mean for terminators? I've used one, but mostly save that arm for SShields. greendestiny
Yes sorry for not being clear on that I did mean TDA on the stormbolter question. I noticed there are several pictures with marines with the stormbolter in the left hand not the right. I did make a mistake and accidently got the polarity mixed up on some of the magnets I put in the models. Having a rough time getting them switched <_< I am almost at the end of my summer time second job so it seams that I will soon be out of cash. I am trying to decide if I want to go for one more box of SW terminators or save everything for the September starter box and then do do some conversions. Unless I get another second job my funds for GW stuff will be around $10/month rather than a couple of hundered like it has been this summer. greendestiny
Couple of test painted models that I did. They are old AOBR marines that I had available. I will be using waterslide transfers that I downloaded here on B&C once I get the chance to ge them printed out. http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x277/greendestiny_bucket/IMAG0001-8_zpsa5395b6f.jpg http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x277/greendestiny_bucket/r1_zps48adf197.jpg http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x277/greendestiny_bucket/imag0008_zpsdd25cfa0.jpg http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x277/greendestiny_bucket/IMAG0002-8_zps6e652d0b.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/257083-building-my-red-wolves/#findComment-3390892 Share on other sites
Way1and
Very nice. I'm sure one of our more artistic brethren will come along in a bit to reccomend some edge highlighting. greendestiny
Thanks, it is my first try at painting red as a primary color. I did some pretty muted blending but nothing as brite as edge highlights. I don't like the red that looks like lightbright neon orange when the highlites are done. But I know that my red painting needs some work so critiques are welcome.
