Fear to tread

Recommended Posts

Alright peeps, first post so hello.

I've been waiting since the start of the HH books for the story of the blood angels having been a fan of the legion for years. Would have thought the BA would have had their day before now but maybe the HH is teeing up the final sprint to the conclusion novels now they are dealing with the white scars and blood angels and the start of their journey back to terra.

I have to admit not liking jim swallows other blood angel novels as they tended towards the worst of the 40k writing style in that it was largely shooting, rubbish dialogue shooting again, an obvious plot twist and then some final shooting in amongst a pretty pointless and uninteresting overall plot. I however think that nemesis was a great novel and one of the best in the series.

I'm hoping his HH novel has a larger breadth and is more character driven ... And is more than one novel ....

Have you read Flight of the Eisenstein? his first HH novel and a great read.

I don't think that we will every read a bad HH book again, as since Battle of the Abyss they never had a real bad novel anymore and with the exception of Prospero Burn's one book was even better than the one before so I would say this book rocks.

Read the advanced review on foundingfields if you need another perception: http://thefoundingfields.com/2012/07/horus...ght-bane-kings/

Well, the only reason why people didn't like Prospero Burns was because there was a huge difference between the book itself, and what BL advertised. Had it been built up like Legion was, people would've given far better responses.

About Fear to Tread... I read the extract from H&B and it seems that Swallow captures Sanguinius pretty well.

BL Blog today about Fear to Tread:

http://www.blacklibrary.com/Blog/Where-Angels.html

It says that pre-ordering it from BL means you get it weeks before it hits the shelves elsewhere, and that the book itself is 100 pages longer than an ordinary HH book.

Pre-ordering it? But BL is selling this book. I bought it in english at Games Day Barcelona, a couple of weeks ago...

I've said that for a while now...if they called the book anything other than Propero Burns, people would be screaming on how amazing it is. Instead, we all get teased, duped, and then had a story bum rush us.

They always have pre release copies at events like Games Day.

It is not a pre-release copy. It is the true book: http://t.co/b9rEzth1

Can I borrow it?

Can't wait to get my copy after reading the extracts so far

Of course... When are you coming to Madrid? :)

The pre-release copy is the exact same as the actual book, it's just released before the actual release date. They always sell a couple of books that haven't been released yet at various events. You can try and buy the book on the BL website if you don't believe me, it still says August 2012 - Preorder.

I enjoyed Nemesis, but mostly because I loved the characters more than the storyline (Could also apply to BftA with Skraal). Freakin' assassins, man. ;)

I'm pretty sure it's a fluff change. I could be wrong though.

For those that wanted to know SPOILERS:

I'm only about a quarter of the way through. The book begins during the Great Crusade. The Blood Angels are waging war alongside the Luna Wolves. Sanguinius and Horus reflect after the Xenos(new race of translucent psychic vampire fish...struck me as a backhanded play on the Tau) have been crushed. They affirm their love and loyalty. Sanguinius is interrupted by his first Captain, Raldoran(?). He is hesitant to say what business is so vital, but Sanguinius prompts him angrily and he says that they've "lost" a brother.

Sanguinius immediately excuses himself from Horus. Turns out that the Red Thirst has been starting to show itself. 200 out of a legion of 100,000+ have fallen victim so far. I'm sure there are some Blood Angels players that are better informed than I, but I thought their curse and madness was a result of Sanguinius dying. Perhaps I'm thinking of something else. This seems to tie the Blood Angels closer together with the Space Wolves since they both share obvious flaws in their geneseed.

Horus is the only other Primarch to know of the Red Thirst since he happened to walk in on Sanguinius mercy killing one of his sons. They do, sort of, mention the unnamed Legions. Sanguinius makes Horus swear to keep his secret out of fear of their Father destroying his Legion as he has in the past.

Unrelated: The Alpha Legion also makes an appearance.

That aside, it's good so far. I'm not a huge fan of James Swallow, but this is a better read than the first Blood Angels Omnibus at least.

Right, that's it. Couldn't remember the term. This affliction is firmly, the red thirst, they feel the need to drink blood no matter the source and are blinded to all reason in their pursuit of it. So I guess they're still separate and Swallow didn't change anything. My bad BA players.

Actually the birth of the "red thirst" was never very clear... This kind of sets it into stone...

You might have finished it by now, so I have to ask -

Do the Blood Angels get any of the gene-tech that the Emperor gives Corax in Deliverance Lost? The current initiation rites of the Blood Angels seem extremely close to that of the pre-breakdown Raven Guard. (Super-fast maturation etc)
