Kastor Krieg
We've all seen the excellent power weapons shots and tutorials, with crackling freehand-painted arcs of lightning and what now. Well, I can't paint that, hands are too shaky and brush control is nowhere close yet. Still, I need power weapons for my Crusade! So here's a trick even a simple Neophyte can follow: 1) Paint the blade nicely and evenly in the brightest silver you got (e.g. Mithril Silver from the previous GW palette). 2) If you got Tin Bitz or Dwarf Bronze, water it down 1:1, so that you get a washy metal paint and daub that unevenly across the blade, allowing the silver to shine through. 3) If you covered too much, water down some Mithril Silver and apply, preferably unevenly, to remove the problem. 4) Use a wash brush for this step! Get a huge load of a blue wash (or any other "force" color you want - Asurmen Blue, Baal Red or Thraka Green) and put it on the blade, then draw the brush DOWN THE BLADE TOWARDS THE TIP. Did the wash pool unevenly on the blade? GOOD. Let it dry and it should look like this. Simple method, quick job, looks pretty decent for a wacky paint job like that ^_^ http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/9489/dsc02021n.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/257237-an-neophytes-trick-to-power-weapons/ Share on other sites
simon-042
Thanks for this! I've been looking for something a little simpler than the free-handed lightning, especially a method that is easier to transfer to lightning claws where there is much less space to paint. I thought washes might be a good solution, but the mottled tin-bitz is an interesting additional step for added effect. Kastor Krieg
Not a problem, mate! Tin Bitz and the brightness of Mithril add a lot of "sparkliness" to the finall effect. Glad my simple technique was of help! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/257237-an-neophytes-trick-to-power-weapons/#findComment-3135130 Share on other sites
