I finally got down to finishing this mini off the other night so I thought I'd share some pics with you:

The markings are probably all wrong, but I decided to go with the 'rule of cool' rather than be constrained by the fluff that I couldn't quite remember B)

any comments of criticism are welcome as usual

cheers

The black and yellow accents mesh well with the gorgeous red color you've created. I'm going to have to give your red recipe a go too, I like it that much. Changing the gems to purple was a good choice, as it plays off the metals well. But what intrigues me the most is the gold. How'd you achieve it?

You're a great painter and I admire your style, but I'm gonna go on record and say this is my favorite miniature of yours. Really awesome work, man. It's good to see you back. B)

Thanks for all the comments guys:

@ Brother Slyth: thanks ;) Do you have photos of your converted mini on here cause I'd love to see how you changed him to make him a 'Fist.

@ Retributis: yeah I think this is probably as close as you can get to one of the Emperor's finest doing the leaving dance :) funny though I didn't see that till you pointed it out...

as for the brushwork I've been wanting to get back to pushing my painting ability with one off mini's for sometime now and it feels good to be doing that :).

@ keith: the cheeky yellow was a bit of trial and error but the recipe is as follows:

Basecoat Iyanden Darksun > Wash Gryphonne Sepia > Layer Iyanden Darksun > Layer really watered down Golden Yellow (this was layer was repeated several times until it was smooth and to my liking) > Harsh edge highlight Sunburst Yellow.

I apologise for the combination of OOP Citadel colours and Vallejo colours but being a painter on a budget means I haven't got that many 'new' Citadel paints yet but to answer your question I think the smoothness came from a combination of the Iyanden basecoat for the intitial coverage and then the thinned layers of Golden Yellow to achive the depth of colour and the smoothness.

@ Darth Potato: I'm glad that the accent colours mesh well with the rest of the mini cause I was a little worried while I was painting that I was creating a 'Macdonalds Marine'. since I've been a member here I've tried to 'balance' my mini's colours (it seems to be what the pro's do) as well. The last minute change to purple for the gems just seemed right as green is a pretty 'cool' colour and the rest of the mini is pretty 'warm' colours. As you said it seems to work really well with the metals too.

Speaking of which, the gold; I've been trying a few different ways of doing gold recently but this one is what I used for this mini;

Basecoat Vallejo Brassy Brass > Wash Ogryn Flesh > Layer/Edge Highlight Vallejo Glorious Gold > Harsh Edge Highlight Mithril Silver > Glaze Gryphonne Sepia.

Again I apologise for the combination of OOP Citadel colours and Vallejo colours but being a painter on a budget means I haven't got that many 'new' Citadel paints yet.

I'd love to see what you do with the red, so please post some pics when/if you use it :)

cheers

James
