Circus Nurgling
Hey again all, I so rarely see any conversion beamer love in anyone's list. When I first got this codex, I figured this weapon would be just plain being abused, but I never see it. What's the deal? Too expensive? Can't move with it? I love the look and feel of this weapon, and the fact that it has its roots in the RT days, so I ask, how could one make it viable in a list? Thanks in advance. Fulminata
I have a very infantry-minded Grey Knights force, the only vehicle I have I a Storm Raven; so I lack serious heavy support (I do have a Dreadknight and a Dreadnought for the pesky vehicles). So for heavy support, I have a Techmarine with a conversion Beamer and orbital strike relay. I usually place him in the rear of the battle, upon an objective surrounded by a 10-man Grey Knight squad. So far, he has been successful in taking out distant heavy tanks, and the Grey Knights do a good job of defending him as well as holding the objective. Gentlemanloser
Tactics? Spread Servo Skulls liberally. Pew Pew with the Conversion Beamers. Preferably from Terrain you have Bosltered. How to make it viable? Probably Coteaz (he solves almost all problems). Coteaz Inq with Beamer 3 x Techs with Beamers 4 x Henchment to babysit Beamers (three have ATSKNF, and 1 is stubborn) Interceptors and PT NDK. If you opponent plays a stand off and shoot gunline, they get pummled by the Beamers, while the Interceptors advance. If they come to you to avoid the beamers, they get intercepted. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/257523-inquisitors-or-techmarines-with-conversion-beamers/#findComment-3133293 Share on other sites
Inquisitor Fox
I always think the bigger problem is the lack of conversion beamer bits (save one model from Forge World that I know of). A lot of people don't feel comfortable converting kit from springs, tubes and whatnot, especially when it's not as simple as a weapon swap. So you see a lot of things in list or theory but not on the tabletop because people don't or can't make them ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/257523-inquisitors-or-techmarines-with-conversion-beamers/#findComment-3133313 Share on other sites

Circus Nurgling
Well that's all food for thought. @ GL, my army is almost purely GK with a few techmarines, and while I'm open to trying out an inquisitor, especially for a conversion beamer, I'm pretty much spent on my GW budget for a while so I'd be building around GK and about 10 GK Terminators. I do have something like 5 interceptors... but yeah I would have to do counts-as stuff for quite a bit. @Fulminata, wow, that's an expensive techmarine. Can he fire both the CB and OSR in the same turn? I'd look but I let a buddy borrow my 'dex to use some paladins and Draigo as allies. I can see that being pretty effective if that's the case. @Nicole, yeah, I can see that being a problem. I've been stewing over exactly what to use for the piece myself. I really don't want to buy the FW astral claws guy just for the backpack, and I'd actually much rather have it be hand-held like a heavy weapon than part of the backpack. I've thought of using a Terminator Assault Cannon as the basis... but haven't been much beyond there. Thanks for the input. Reclusiarch Darius
OSR is kinda terrible anyway, full scatter means it always misses, and unless you're playing against a horde list you probably won't hit anything even when trying to compensate. I got conversion beamer bits off eBay after a bit of digging. You can always just use plasma cannon bits and count-as instead. The main meta reason you don't see them much is they require a static position, and you need multiple blasts to do serious damage (as scatter and cover can rob it of a lot of its punch). Coteaz is largely the solution here, he brings along a pack of plasma cannon servitors to add to the low AP blast death, and 'Prescience' re-rolls to ensure you hit your targets.
