Hi Everyone,

At my local club, we just started a campaign in the style of the Tale of X gamers and I will need to paint 2000 pts in almost 10 months.

I will try to keep this post update everytime I complete a squad or just with the progress.

I'm really far to be a professionnal painter ( these are the first models I paint ) and any tips are welcome if that can help me to improve my skills

For the first 2 months, I need to paint 500 pts.

Here is the first GH squad ( eyes and base to complete soon )

For the first minis you've painted these are awesome!

In regards to tips and things you can improve on its hard to see any obvious areas beyond just practicing, the more minis you paint the better you'll get. As for painting eyes, I generally do mine right near the start. I find it frustrating to try and paint the eyes after I've painted the face as it can be very tricky to do the eyes without spoiling the painting you've done on the face and then you end up repainting part. It's far from impossible just a case of you may end up having to redo bits of the face once you've painted the eyes.

What do you plan on doing with their bases?

I will maybe give a try on the next mini about doing the eyes first because on one of them, I needed to repainted the face 5 times..... and still no result.

For the base, not sure if I can link a website, but I will buy some resin base in style of desert and rock on it. I saw two differents tutorial for create the snow effect. One with some glue and baking soda ( not sure about the final effect ) and one with the GW snow.

I watched your mini in your blog ( really cool project btw and I like the fluff your created ) and wondering what you used? Baking soda?

thanks for the positive comment

I used the new colors from Citadel

Blue: The Fang + washes of Badas Black and highlight Space wolves grey

Red : Mephiston Red + washes Badas Black

Pelt = Gorthor Brown + Ushabti bone and washes Ogryn Flesh + Gryphonne Sepia

Metalic : Brass scorpion + washes of Badas Black and highlight runefang steel

Hope that can help

3 Drop Pod and 1 Rune Priest and my 500 pts will be done

Any tips for painting DP? Not sure how I should put the wash on them, with a regular brush or use the Airbrush ( some people told me that was easy but I never tried )

I'd suggest either airbrushing them (never used it meself as I don't own one lol) or use a nice tank brush, do the basic painting and then use washes in the darker areas (inside/vents) and highlight the edges as you would for normal guys - a friend of mine also uses textured paint for the bottom as he likes it feeling like it's just crashed down throwing up mud and detritus - plus it's useful for ageing it :P

Also those guys look very nice :( any ideas on how you'll base them?

Really cool to receive this kind of comment, I will keep working hard and keep you update guys

For the base, I currently ordered some resin base ( not sure if I can link or not.... http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/inde...products_id=205 )

Not sure about the colors right now but I will probably use some Baking soda like Elazar explain a little bit earlier and see what happen

Good morning guys,

Long time since my last update ( been busy with job, gf and.... guildwars2!! )

Here 2 pictures of the resin base I ordered from Secret weapon, they are really great except 1 of them where the details are so so but Overall, I'm really happy with theses.

I will update soon with the picture of 3 Drop Pods ( hopefully, next week )

when you get them please put up whether they're any good as I'm inclined to order some meself - they're brilliantly shown but idk what they're like irl :P

I have and use these bases and am quite happy with them. There are a couple that are a bit of an odd shape that takes a bit of positioning to it the model stay on and look balanced, but after adding a snow mixture to fill in those odd looking spots they look great, imo... I also like the fact that they give the illusion of your marines being "truescale" and taller than normal sized IG. In fact I am planning on going back and rebasing all of my marine armies with them. (Not the Runic Mountain ones, of course, they do have so many cool options)
