Papa Lazarou
Been thinking recently that the amount I spend on prmers and brushes it might be time to invest in a airbrush. Been having a look at the forum on which ones are good etc but here's one I've found that's in my price range. I don't want to get something to expensive just yet in case I don't gel with it. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Airbrush-Compresso...6676&sr=8-4 What do you guys think? winterdyne
For priming and varnishing alone it's worth it. That set's fine. Add all the fun basecoating etc, you'll never look back. But, don't ever be lazy or complacent with it; you MUST keep it clean, or it's a right pain to sort out. Always make sure there's no paint or medium that can congeal left in the brush at the end of a session. Also keep an eye out for paints that misreact or congeal and make sure they're flushed out. You will also want assorted cleaning gear; cotton buds, cellulose thinners etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/257739-to-airbrush-or-not-to-airbrush/#findComment-3135437 Share on other sites
Papa Lazarou
Thank winterdyne, that's exactly what I want it for, to take away the hours of mind numbing basecoating of red. Also might have a bash at zenithal highlighting with it too. winterdyne
One thing to be aware of; Tamiya paints rule for airbrushing. They're much harder wearing and apply much more easily than reguilar acrylics. Use the right thinner though. Vallejo Polyurethane Surface Primers are what you want. Those airbrush neat, but must be flushed out with water and cleaned out of the pot well with thinners-soaked q-tips before you use thinners through the AB (as they gunk up pretty quick with thinners). Papa Lazarou
Ordered!! Hmmm, think this is going to be one steep learning curve. Thanks for the advice but think it wont be the last time I'll be asking. ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/257739-to-airbrush-or-not-to-airbrush/#findComment-3135577 Share on other sites
winterdyne
Yeah, but those airbrushes are easily replacable. I have a friend who ruined a £100 airbrush cos he didn't clean it. Learn on kit like this before buying anything too expensive. S.k.i.t.t.l.e
Anybody seen/used one of these before: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PROFESSIONAL-STA...=item2571d93118 I know it'll be uber natty, but do you reckon it'll prime/varnish a few models?? Just looking at the cheapest option for myself at the mo. Seen a few similar to the topic starter's set, but since I'd only use it to prime or varnish, was just wondering if I can go this cheap..?? :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/257739-to-airbrush-or-not-to-airbrush/#findComment-3136092 Share on other sites
winterdyne
No, those compressors do pulse a bit and will overheat very quickly. You need a bigger compressor. THis one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AIR-BRUSH-COMPRE...013%26rk%3D2%26 is a better set.
