Herald Base sizes

Recommended Posts

Quick question....

I am looking to do a custom converted Herald of Slaanesh and was looking at bases to base it on.... I noticed that both Tzeentch heralds and Epidemius are on 50mm bases, yet the Skulltaker and the Masque models are on 25mm bases. Would basing mine on a 40mm base be a no-no? I can't see it a really being modeling for advantage as it falls in between the already used sizes of Heralds, but then again you never know how someone will react. I know my small (very small) circle of gamers would have no issues with it, but i worry for when I may get a game outside of my normal group.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

A little off; the Tzeentch Heralds (who are riding Discs) are supplied with a large flying stand, Epidemius is on a 60mm, Skulltaker is on a 40mm, and the Masque is on a 25mm. These are the base size each should be mounted on. Unless you have some aesthetic reason for reducing some sizes and increasing others, it is simply modelling for advantage (for instance, increasing the Masque's shooting range or reducing Epidemius' deep strike footprint).

I went off the sizes listed on GW site, lol (and we know how infallible they are, hehe). But no, I am not using the Masque model for my herald I am doing a conversion that likely won't fit on a 25mm base, a 40mm should be perfect for it, but then that's why I was checking, not looking for any advantages just hate having models overhanging bases by obscene amounts....

Also, when in doubt upsize. You cannot use smaller bases than the model is supplied with, but I believe the rules allow bigger bases if you wish (Tau often go through this with the desire to use 60mm bases for more dynamic posing).

That said, it will be interesting to see whether the new chariots are on the new football-sized flight bases, or circular 60mm ones. I still cannot tell from the pictures I've seen.

I use a 60mm for my chariot herald, and a 25mm for my non-mounted herald.

Cheers.

The new Seeker chariots are on the footballs. Also, you are allowed to mount on smaller bases as equally as you are allowed to mount on larger bases, but in all cases it should be for Aesthetics, not Gaming that you mount a model on a different base.

I haven't even heard of those bases, Bearingtheword, but having checked them out they do look pretty neat.
