HERO
Hey guys, I play CSM mainly and I'm looking towards some Slaanesh demons to go with my army. However, I'm not sure which ones to take. In the left corner, we have a 170 point unit of 10 Seekers. That's 50 WS4 I6 S3 Rending attacks on the charge, all with built-in offensive and defensive grenades. They have 10 wounds at T3 with a 5+ save. Seekers have cavalry movement, so 12" move, ignoring difficult but treating it as dangerous, and have a 7" average charge for 19" threat. In the other corner, we have a 180 point of 6 Fiends. That's 36 WS4 I5 S5 Rending attacks on the charge, no grenades of any kind but they have Hit and Run. These guys have 12 wounds at T4 and a 5+ save. Fiends have beast movement, so 12" move, ignoring all terrain and have 7" average charge for the same 19" threat range. I'm not that great at math, but I'm pretty sure the variance of possible Rends can explode with a unit like the Seekers through the sheer # of attacks. The Fiends, on the other hand, are guaranteed more wounds vs. MEQ (my main opponent) and are generally tougher to put down. Which one would you guys take if you can only take one? Thanks! Lepaca
I'd slam Unholy Might on the fiends and call it a day! Sure it makes them even a little bit more expensive, but S6 is worth it. breng77
Only 1 Fiend Can take unholy might. That said I would go with Fiends, as they are more durable and as such will survive with more to get into combat. They can also climb ruins which can be a big deal. Look at it this way 10 bolters rapid fire your unit. Kills 2 fiends leaving you with 4 or 24 attacks on the charge. Kills 6 seekers leaving you with 4 or 20 attacks on the charge. Throw in things like overwatch and dangerous terrain and you really need a bigger unit of seekers to be really good. The fiends also have a smaller deepstrike foot print which means they are easier to get onto the board. Brother Keyaetus
I'd go with seekers, what you get for them for only 170pts looks like a steal, and they could even scare your opponent into focusing on them due to rending. Also the fiend models are shocking imo, and getting 10 seekers wouldn't be too expensive. Sception
If it's a cost/model thing, then yeah, fiends are overpriced and kind of meh. However, drider conversions using goblin spiders & daemonettes are pretty cheap and look awesome. People have used them for seekers / centigores / etc, but I think they make great fiends. These are the best looking I've seen but even if you're not quite that great at painting and modeling, the conversion can work out alright: example example example Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/257869-fiends-vs-seekers/#findComment-3138558 Share on other sites
