50 games of Draigowing (50 shades?)

Just been adding things up, and I realized that I have played 50 games with my Draigowing, which coincidentally happens just as I am about to take a break from them.

This is also the longest I have recorded my games, so I have a win draw lose ratio for the first time ever!

35wins, 10 draws and 5 losses, pretty good considering that the majority of my games were at 1500 points using Draigo, 15 pallies (no apothecary, no brotherhood banner, 6 psycannons) and a dreadknight with heavy incinerator, great sword and personal teleporter. About a 3rd were at 1750 points with the same list and a second dreadknight with heavy incinerator, personal teleporter.

For me, apart from making me realize how effective Draigowing is (no Duh!), it brought home to me how playing units you like works if they suit your playing style. I'm talking of the 2 dreadknights weighing in at 495 points, so many people talked bad about these guys in 5th, 495 buys you 3 psyrifle's and leaves you 90 points B)

I also enjoyed people's surprise at facing a DK army without psyrifle dreads that's your army? You have no twin autocannon dread's?. AWESOME FEELING! So many people hate those you guys, probably helped me get some extra sports man points :pinch:

Well, I am going to stop playing them for a few months (that break I mentioned near the start). They are similar enough in 6th so far (as long as units of paladins are characters its more or less the same), and my friends can do without playing them. I've made a few Space Wolf lists for my renegade loganwing army, I really like Terminators :) I've even added in a psycannon armed inquisitor, 5 GKT and a DK in to a wacky Logan led army (2 drop pods, Arjac).

I shall still be working on my Inquisitor, as I have started painting him (still need to finish his bionic arm holding his Gatling gun).

And I'll get in a few practice games before throne of skulls in October (I didn't last time and paid the price).

Psyfel dreads are a nasty spawn from the internet forums. Trying to convince the public that they are a "must" in a GK army. But as you have proven, they are not. I my self never use them as I hate the idea of a psyfel dread. Dont know if its the whole tiresome that they are in every GK list I see, or that I personally never would exchange the DCCW for an additional ranged weapon.

And as you, I had some comments too when I play my GK armies. "What no psyfel dread. You do know they are a "must/really good"?" I also quite often get the question: "are you proxing psycannons, because I cant see over 8 psycannons in your army.

Psycannons are not the answer.

But then again, I do not win with a large margin, and I dont win as often as a competetive player. I do have more wins than losses, but I do believe it thanks to unortodox playing and army lists.

Ok my english is not good enough for jumping from psycannons/rifle man not needed to win to I dont win as much as other normal GK players ? could you explain this more .

@Jeske

I dont use the flavour of the month units (usually). And for GK its usually the Psi-rifle dread. What I mean, you dont need them to win as a GK player.

Psycannons are also what it seems to be GKs answer (and only answer) to anti tank and anti heavy armor. Hence most lists include only Psycannons. Just take a look at most internet GK lists. 10 man unit, x2 psycannon, 1 hammer. Copy paste.

So I dont win as much, maybe because I dont use these "must have units" or simply because I am experimenting to much with optional army lists every time I play.

I am in the game for the fun, not the winning and crushing my opponent to oblivion (but I would love to now and then :D )

I think what nurglez has found with his own list, and what Vash is saying (if I may attempt to paraphrase their points) is this:

Armies have to be able to address many things. Anti-Infantry, anti-armor, how do I score and claim objectives, how do I respond to close combat, etc. Psycannons are one answer to anti-armor, and they are a good all around gun. They are not the only answer. Psyflemen dreads are one answer to anti-armor and long range firepower, but they are not the only answer. What is important is that you look over the Codex and pick an answer that works for you and your own playstyle. Not all players have the same style, and not all units are the same. We are blessed to have a Codex that has many available tools, pick one that works for you and run with it (but not if it's scissors).

How true.

For example, even with the prowess of MSU 'backs, I personally dislike Tanks. So I don't use them,or tend to build lists that do.

Back in the dark days of the DH 'dex, I crumbled and bought a LR. Becuase I *had* to. Idon't like it,and it's still not painted.

For 6th,I picked up two Rhinos/Razors, just to test them out.

They hardly see the light of day now.

Even with the awesome 36" Range, I'm a footslogger at heart, and that's what I enjoy running.

Now, if I wanted to show off and really spank someone, I'd bust out 10+ Rhinos and get all MSU onsomeones  :D

(Gah,my little girl has got something stuck under my space key....)

paper clip to the rescue!

She knows not to eat while using the laptops.

But I was upstairs helping with my newborn son this aternoon and she's big nough to get into the uboard we keep the sweets/chocolate in now.

Gah, it's the 'c' key not working now.

/sigh

Bak I go with the paperlip...

Thanks. I seldom get time to think my answers over. Almost 2 year old daughter sitting on my lap, pointing at the screen and begging for music videos.

Your answer pretty much sums my thoughts up.

:D

I had that with cats... And now Warcraft, so she can either;

Play a Hunter and tame a cat pet

Play a druid and become a cat

My wife has now turned her hopes on our son loving football over computer games. ;)

(Soz Nurglez for the slight derail!)

Back on topic (go go c key!), How have people found Paladin as Charcaters in 6th?

Does Precision Shots/Strikes make an impact? How is Lo,S! on a 4+?

:D

Ha ha ;)

On to topic.

Precision strikes has added some flavor. I myself have never really liked pimped up grand masters. But with precision shots, I might consider taking a psycannon so I can single out characters or special weapons.

Lo,S! on 4+ is okey. But the Lo,S! on independent characters on 2+ is totally weird for me. It's a tad to much protection. It has rendered my favorite character "useless" against such targets. The Vindicare assassin. I havent used him in 5th at all, but I do love his combat role non the less.

Now he is an anti tank assassin... Might as well give him an Exitus Missile launcher.

But of course, he is still awesome versus special weapons and such.

Only 4 games with 6th, so pinch of salt etc. however Draigo leading the unit increases its toughness a lot, however he often dies on me. 4+ to allocate a wound is pretty good. Precision shot I had forgotten about (except for 1 game where 5 psycannon shots later a claw toting nob bit the dust :D ).

If you keep all paladins within 6 inches of Draigo you can always attempt to look out sir to him, however I love the feel of Draigo standing at the front of a unit, braving all the fire without a care in the world...

And no worries about the derailing, was pretty funny. I totally agree with what Inquisitor NicolePyykkonen has said (before the derailment), playing style counts for a lot (I have found out I love tough low model count armies). I also love my DK's and am considering replacing the psyrifle dread in my current 6th edition list for a DK with heavy incinerator ;) (when I eventually go back to Draigowing).

Unfortunately, I have yet to play a single actual game of Draigowing. Only thing I did so far was testing and that was in fifth edition. But I have to say Nurglez, thanks for all the info you've put out on the army as a whole. It's always been a great read and has helped develop a lot of my own army. It's been a great ride so far and I'm looking forward to if/when you get back into it!

On another note, now that fifth edition wound allocation is out, and closest to wound/character Lo,S! is in, do all models in a ten man paladin units have to be armed differently in order to pull off the separating of wounds amongst squad members? I.E. could a Paladin take a Lo,S! roll on another Paladin equipped exactly the same since they are both characters?

As Seahawk would say, read the rulebook, cover to cover. <3

Different wargear is more or less meaningless now with the new Wound Alloc rules; you have wound pools which you pit against armor save groups based on range. Since all of your Paladins have 2+ saves, they're all in the same armor group when getting shot at by small arms fire. The same is true for ranged AP2+, as they all have 5++ saves.

The only way to bounce saves around the unit now is to leverage the fact that they are all Characters; each one of them gets a 4+ for another Paladin to leap in and take the hit (if they're in the same unit and within 6") due to Look Out, Sir!

You no longer need to have different equipment, as it is sorted out by characters look out sir.

There have been rumors that they will faq it so character unit's will only have 1 of them as a character (the unit leader), but until that is released in a faq I'm playing it that the whole unit is a unit of characters (so can look out sir on a 4+), of course IC's can look out sir on a 2+ ;)

Edit: Bah ninjad by Thade, damn him!

I have two rulebooks (don't ask how) and both of them are out on loan. One guy is seeing if he wants to get back in the game, another is learning the game overall. I'm stuck in the middle (with you!) of a very very large school paper and have about 400 pages of research to read so time is short :P

And that's exactly what I was looking for. I'm just looking to get rid of all the extra points of Master Crafted weapons and add in more stuff that might actually buff the army with my play style. Doesn't really do enough for me and I can probably put the point to good use elsewhere.

Where abouts does it say Paladins are characters? I've read this a few times on here, but clearly I've missed it in the book.

6th edition rule book page 410.

Many units have new "type" notes. Check them out. The Nemesis dreadknight is a character too, along with all the justicars and knights of the flame.

Nice one. Cheers.
