Space Dragon Dreadnought Madness

So I'm working on a rather large force for my DIY chapter, the "Space Dragons" or "Draco Lacuna"

Over the next few weeks or so I plan to share a good bit of material including a bunch of pics, fluff, character write ups, etc.

Since Kurgan was nice enough to fix my account recently, and since these are the only pictures I have access to tonight, I thought I would post some pictures of the completed Dreadnought portion of the army as a start to this.

Here they are:

(Two venerable and two ironclad)

This first one is an Ironclad. I used the DIY shield to represent the extra armor, and cut the Assault Launchers from old metal ones. This dread is an old school metal body with plastic arms from the newer kits.

This is one of the Venerables. It's a Forgeworld standard body with a custom head. The crucifico with the Templar on it is a fluff piece to represent the difference of opinion between my chapter and the Templars on the use of psykers. My chapter teaches that psychic powers are meant to be used as the emperor's tools and should not be denied.

Another Ironclad. Black Reach plastic body with extensive additions to represent extra armor as well as more of the parted out metal assault launchers.

http://i1167.photobucket.com/albums/q623/rp185800/BlindRight.jpg

...and the last, my other Venerable. This one is an old metal Space Wolves Dread. I puttied in the tabbard and parchments to cover the wolf iconography and give it some pious flavor. The crucifico on this one is a witch, meant to represent the crime of abusing psychic powers. The two venerables are intended to juxtapose one another in theme.

Let me know what you think!

Whilst I like the idea of the crucified enemy/dissenter, I can't see the Templars (who number well above those of a normal chapter) letting you get away with it for long :P

The painting looks solid, but some parts are lacking depth a bit, it may just be the shininess of them but something makes me think the larger flat areas could use... something to make them feel a bit more "real". Coat of matte varnish maybe? I'm sure more experienced and helpful commenters will be along in a mo to tell me I'm talking rubbish :)

Really like the giant shield one of them has though, looks very beefy!

Really like the flavour on those Dreads, especially the "Naysayer"... pretty funny.

As Retributis says the giant shield is pretty cool; I like the idea of that one just going "Boss Mode" and charging into an enemy squad, the only thing I'd think of doing is changing the power fist into a Thunder hammer just for that epic "This is my hammer!" feeling. Keep it up! Stuff like this makes me want to get my arse into gear with my own 6x Dreads. Can't wait to see more. ;)

Your chapter would get the excommunicated boot for doing Parricide on a member of there own gene line. Not to mention the wrath you would get from the BT semi-legions. I like the models you deffenetly put some character into them. But you fluff on your own chapter makes them more chaotic, than loyalists.

There are those who would think us Radical...

The gifts of the emperor are not to be trifled with or to be ignored.

Such is the hypocritical nature of the Black Templars that we cannot continue to ignore their breaches of the faith.

Lol, thanks for the comments. I had considered a dreadnought size spear for the ironclad with the shield. The fabrication on the hand didn't go how I wanted it to, so I ended up just going with the standard dccw.

Nice painting and shield for the dred... interesting take for the fluff but I have to agree with the above post makes it look more Chaos then Loyal is it doesnt fit in theme for a loyalist chapter to do that to another non chaos brother but hey its your hobby :tu:

The fluff on them is leaning toward the Radical. There is a story in the works about the Templar crucifix. They are, by fluff, a loyalist chapter, but they operate mostly on the eastern and northern fringes and are relatively secretive compared to other chapters. I'm currently working on that fluff and the rivalry between them and the templars is supposed to work something like the old space wolf vs. dark angel fluff.
