Inquisitorial Servitors

so I was waiting for the paint to dry on my ETL Draigo and I was looking at my amassed bits. I came across 3 epic scale titans with the las cannon and chainfist arms (albeit, wee) and was thinking of making them into a trio of servitors. I have some heavy bolters from some SM attack bikes, and thought of throwing them on as HB servitors for my budding GK army.

so question 1, are HB servitors worth 10 points?

question, the second: how about units of servitors without inquisitors? Is mind-lock that bad?

Mindlock is 50-50, so its horrendous, if you depend on it, and awesome if you just need a diversion

But then again, if you run coteaz, then 3 HB servitors is just a 30 point objective holder that can lay down an insane amount of fire for their cost. Throw in a few 4 point cannonfodder acolytes just for good measure, park them in cover and you'll see that your opponent will need to deal with them - and he'll probably need to assign more points to deal with them, than they're worth.

Look at like this:

50 points will give you: 3 BS3 Heavy Bolters with 8 wounds to park in cover

or

50 points will give you: Half a Strike Squad ;)

Spammed, this will fill out your troop slots for just 400 points (including Coteaz), which leaves you plenty of room for all those shiny GK toys to rule the midfield under cover from all those bolter shells - you could even throw in some plasma or melta cannons for good measure.

HB Servitors are great fun, especially when mixed with a space monkey.

I play risky, and only add one monkey, but last time I got rolled a six, then got rending and +12 to range. So much fun to be had with that combo :(

Upgrade a standard Inq to Psyker lvl1 for Prescience for 55 points and leave then back field in a ruin. Happy days.

I would only go with MM-servitors personally. The Heavy bolter doesn't really add something to the GK army, and Plasma i just too expensive.

In my current army, I am playing around with:

-3x MM-servitors

-2x Jokaeros

-6x Stormbolter henchemen

with Coteaz in a chimera. Divination gives reroll to hit, so even on the move, you have a decent chance to get some hits from the top hatch. The unit with chimera clocks in at 197 points, which is expensive for a shooting unit, but is a real threat, especially to fliers.

BS3 multi-melta...yeah no. Also, we have anti-infantry everywhere, its AP2 we lack, so the heavy bolter is equally meh.

Plasma cannon servitors are cheap. Even with 2 x Jokaero+Chimera added, they barely break the cost of a bare-bones Tactical squad (ie before you add Rhino). Srsly, other armies cringe when you break out plasma cannons at that price.

Mindlock is the real kicker though; you HAVE TO babysit with Coteaz or another Inquisitor. Its one of the dumbest rules in 40k, and we can't just park a Tech-Marine w/conversion beamer with them (although incidentally, the Xenos Inquisitor comes in cheaper w/psychic upgrade, if you want another low AP blast for the unit).

That's actually why I advocate 3 plasma gun warriors with the plasma cannon servitors. If you are parking, adding jokaero and an inquisitor, you can fire the plasma guns at maximum 24" range (assuming your jokaero didn't up it or something else fun) and use them as low AP fire support. I definitely see your point about keeping the units cheap and ablative wounds, but it's really changing 8 ablative wounds into 4 ablative wounds, but then being able to give said ablative wounds things like power armor or storm shields to increase survivability.

I guess I just hate planning on a unit to die when I purchase it ;)
