Widowmaker
Greetings folks, So my local GW has a painting comp running right now, and I'm about to embark on a Space Wolf army. I have about 2,000 pts planned right now - mostly Sven Bloodhowl's Great Company with a few squads from Logan Grimnar's Great Company. I have a snag though - I'm about to paint my Scouts and need opinions. http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s106/widowmakerphotos/Games%20Workshop/Warhammer%2040K/Imperial/Space%20Marines/Space%20Wolves/In%20Progress/RSCN0098.jpg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s106/widowmakerphotos/Games%20Workshop/Warhammer%2040K/Imperial/Space%20Marines/Space%20Wolves/In%20Progress/RSCN0096.jpg/ http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s106/widowmakerphotos/Games%20Workshop/Warhammer%2040K/Imperial/Space%20Marines/Space%20Wolves/In%20Progress/RSCN0097.jpg The gray is actually much darker than it looks - I have a new camera and I haven't quite got the hang of it yet, so the color balance is a little off. Here are my questions. 1) I'm thinking about urban bases with some ice/snow effects. D'ya think this will give enough contrast for the models to "pop"? 2) At the moment I'm thinking of leaving the fatigues black against a dark gray armor. Any thoughts? Would you suggest a different color? Gray? Tan? White? 3) Other than the highlights, what should I add? Comments and criticism welcome. Cheers, Widowmaker Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/258109-space-wolf-scout-test-model/ Share on other sites
Captain Hwarang
Looking good man. 1) The models will pop off of the base yet, but I don't think anything on the model will distinguish itself from any other part of the model. But perhaps after you highlight it the dark gray will stand out more. 2) Honestly, if you're going to use a dark gray armor, I would use a lighter fatigue color. I think the model is a bit too dark as it is now. 3) Drill out the barrel! -CH Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/258109-space-wolf-scout-test-model/#findComment-3140438 Share on other sites
Widowmaker
Thanks for the input Capt. Hwarang, I appreciate it. I was mulling over lightening the fatigues... and yes, I'll get around to drilling the barrels before they're done. No, really. I will. OK folks, take a look at this and see if you think its any better. http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s106/widowmakerphotos/Games%20Workshop/Warhammer%2040K/Imperial/Space%20Marines/Space%20Wolves/In%20Progress/RSCN0105.jpg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s106/widowmakerphotos/Games%20Workshop/Warhammer%2040K/Imperial/Space%20Marines/Space%20Wolves/In%20Progress/RSCN0107.jpg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s106/widowmakerphotos/Games%20Workshop/Warhammer%2040K/Imperial/Space%20Marines/Space%20Wolves/In%20Progress/RSCN0106.jpg As you can see - I lightened the fatigues a bit. I think the contrast is still there between fatigues and armor though. There are still a few details I need to add (bases, plasma pistol weathering, battle damage etc), but I'm pretty happy with it now. The rest of the squad will follow shortly. Comments, criticism and so on welcome as always. Cheers.
