Grey Angel

I just downloaded it. It's a followup to Legion of One and other Garro audiobooks. There's some... interesting stuff in there but it's rather vague. Which is fitting concerning the subject matter ;)

It's about 35 minutes, high production value and pretty well written. The ending confused me somewhat but I'm going to give it another listen.

Your presumption is correct, although I had to listen twice and check some artwork before I got the reference to the armor design :)

It's quite short and devoid of real developments, although it seems to be setting up the Fall of Luther et. all. as being even more subtle and complicated than previously assumed. It carries across the complete paranoia of members of Legio I well, which has only gotten worse in light of the circumstances.

Correct, although Garro doesn't feature in the story. It follows Loken and Iacton Qruze, alongside some better known Dark Angel characters...

Then maybe it's Qruze and Loken? The one on the left looks pretty old.

Not The old one is Garro. That is his armor. But as stated he is not featured in the book. Don't judge the book by its cover. :D

I enjoyed it. Very mysterious.

My 2p:

He is unsure of their allegiance even at the end, talking that it is in the balance. To my mind he knows they are swaying and suspects something is wrong, but cannot confirm either way. Hence why he doesn't reveal the Heresy, so as not to sway them one way or the other

Grey Angel was a pretty good audio book. The story takes place between the two Dark Angel Horus Heresy novels, Descent of Angels and Fallen Angels. The one thing that sticks out to me is that two of Garro's men, Loken and Iacton Qruze, where sent on a mission by Rogal Dorn, but I thought Malcador the Sigillite was the one who gave Garro's unit/team thier missions?

I'm glad that Loken was brought back into the Horus Heresy. He is my favorite character in the story and the Garro storyline is my favorite part of the Horus Heresy. I can't wait for the next audio book on Garro, the Sword of Truth.

Just a quick heads up:

While Garro is not actually featured in Grey Angel, the story is only half of a future disc release, to be released late April next year. They've used the same cover artwork for Grey Angel (and why wouldn't they?) and settled with adjusting the title.

http://picload.org/image/drpcaww/61q7myrjk0l._sl5.jpg

Description:

As the renegade forces of the Warmaster storm across the galaxy, a very different kind of war rages in the shadows of the Imperium – the Knights Errant, chosen of Malcador himself, move quietly in the dark places where others cannot. Battle-captain Nathaniel Garro makes his way to the Imperial Fists’ mighty starfort Phalanx, seeking out another kindred soul for his elite band of warriors. Meanwhile, on distant Caliban, former Sons of Horus Garviel Loken and Iacton Qruze undertake a mission to ascertain the true loyalties of the Ist Legion.

Now this just makes me wonder if they're planning to release Burden of Duty on its own as well. It really is a shame, if you ask me, that at least half of that audio drama is already finished and being sold, with over half a year left til the physical release. Garro: Sword of Truth is coming much later this year, so I can see why it is still so far out, but BoD/GA isn't even the only Heresy drama to be released early next year. They could've easily scheduled their releases a bit better...

Maybe Burden of Duty is a separate story and Amazon got it wrong by stating they were one and the same?

It is a separate story written by James Swallow. However, both Burden of Duty and Grey Angel are getting released as one single disc release with one cover. Amazon surely hasn't pulled the description out of their arses and photoshopped a fitting cover artwork. They've only recently updated the product page, which among others has gone live a couple of months ago, however.

Ehhh. . . Malcador's the ring-leader for sure, but they've been shown working for Dorn in the past already. Qruze acted as Dorn's executioner in The Last Remembrancer.

It's quite short and devoid of real developments,

For some one who is a bit obsessed with the fate of the Loyalists from traitor Legions, i think this story is overflowing with important developments.

I have been saying for a long time i thought Loken becomes a founding Grey Knight Grandmaster. The subject of Gavrial possessing/ not, psychic powers is addressed directly.

My favorite Captain of the Heresy Iacton, is shown to be a complete bad @$$ on one hand and quite blind on the other. The Raven Guard don't have all the Ninjas

Cyper real identity is known to Loken, And Cypher knows the identity of one of the Grey Knight GM. Both Loyal to the Emperor. I REALLY hope that it is Zahariel. This knowledge makes the story of Cypher meeting Abaddon on his flag ship much more interesting.

I'm guessing that the Ordo Malleus, knowing about the 1st Legions secret is huge. I wonder if Dorn ever fins out. If the IF know about the DA's maybe he told Guilimon... I bet Loken/ Qruze keep it to the knight errants and Malcador.

I love how through out all the crap Loken has been through, he is still rocking the bolterandchainsword. I also love how there is nothing that could happen to him that could faze him. No matter how grim a situation looks, he KNOWS the Emperor Protects.

So Loken knows, Abaddon, Lucius, Khârn, Erebus, Cypher, personally. Would make for quite the reunion.

I loved the Cypher revelation at the end. I've loved the idea of the character since back in 2nd ed and any information on his allegience etc is welcome. i guess this goes some way to explaining his erratic journey to Terra?

However, I don't think Loken/Iacton know for certain the secret of the 1st Legion. The theme throughout the Audio drama is one of "we don't know where their allegiance lies, and our very being here may tip things in a direction we don't want. BUT we don't know

So no one else noticed this means the Imperium knows that the Dark Angels split? That's a fairly big retcon....

Considering the ridiculous (both scope and making sense-wise) retcons the Garro books have made so far, it really wouldn't surprise me at all...

I think you're overestimating the impact of the story. They leaving feeling that thing on Caliban are still in the balance, but they aren't anywhere near certain that betrayal has taken place. In fact, not even the reader knows that this is before or after the Fallen Angels decide to split. Secondly, the Inquisition as such does not exist yet. So conclude that the Imperium now "knows" is taking it too far. Even if the full story of what happens/will happen on Caliban is discovered by the proto-Inquisition there is no certainty that this knowledge will survive the Heresy, the Scouring or be known in 40k.
