Anything to remove plastic glue?

Recommended Posts

If you're talking standard plastic models glued together with standard plastic glue - then no. Plastic glue works by chemically melting the two pieces of plastic together, meaning they are bound together as if they had been molded as a single piece of plastic.
I made a mistake the other day with some shoulder pads being on the wrong way round and I managed to pop them off with a green stuff modelling tool and some gentle pressure. No damage to the parts. I think the thicker plastic glue is easier to pop off as there is a seam that isn't quite bonded. Thin plastic glue is never going to come off ever. Superglue can be dissolved with a superglue remover but this may damage plastics so test it first on a mini you don't care about and then if it works limit exposure time as much as possible.

unfortunately plastic glue is on a ticking clock with removal, the longer you wait the harder it is until it becomes impossible

with most plastic glues you can unbind pieces up to 36 hours after glued, but even then its going to leave pieces noticeably changed (they will look melted)

if its more than a year old only a knife will re-separate them

Actually you can remove, provided the seal or weld hasn't perfectly formed, which is most cases... try using thin plastic glue. This will seep into whatever cracks there are and will help loosen/soften the bond. It isn't fullproof, but does work. Do give it a try.
