Waterslide transfers ....

Recommended Posts

OK here goes .... Im making my own waterslide transfers and have also downloaded the transfer sheets from B&C. The problem im having is the crimson fists ones. They are a bright red. Which they need to be but after I've printed them and put them , sealed them and put them on the darker blue of the model they are way too dark. It looks like they are too transparent. I am using the clear transfer paper stock and not the white. The transfer stock that comes with the GW models is clear as well. The inside of the chapter cymbal is clear .... as in open ... and the fist and ring are the only red.

Anyone have any solutions for me to fix this? .. ive tried printing a first pass with the closest to white on the printer i can get just to get white pigment down then printing over that with 3 coats of red ... ie 3 passes of red after the white.... still they are way dark once on the model .... HELP !!! ;)

Bright colours are best white-backed. Printers don't print white (apart from ALPS, and some laser sublimation toners). You need to either paint the design white (use a guide decal) or use white decal paper. I'd probably tend to the latter, with the centre of the design being printed dark blue (as close to your scheme as possible) then touched up afterward.
Well that makes sense ... Was thinking that GW has to have a different method. Theirs must be laser Alps printer then. Arggg ok well it may be the only choice i have is to buy a laser printer as I'm not sure i can match the field to the model color close enough that my eye wont pick it up. ;)

No, GW use screen printing; different to home printing, and much more expensive to set up.

Laser toner is also fairly translucent in order to achieve a bright colour on white paper. Honestly, the best solution at home would be to use white decal paper and touch up afterward by hand, or alternatively a guide decal which you paint over with white before laying the colour on.

White transfers are really easy to paint over. I did it all the time to clean up the edges and add in the eyes on my own chapter and you can't tell the difference at all.

Here is an example, though I guess its hard to tell because it is small but the whole outline has been touched up and the eye filled in before the weathering of course.
