Greetings Brothers!

Today I played in a relatively large multi-player game 6,000 points of the Emperor's Finest against 6,000 points of Chaos Space Marines and Daemons, using the 6th edition rules! Quite an epic battle! 4,000 points of Space Wolves, including 2,000 of my army, and 2,000 points of Ultra-Smurfs with some Tau allies. We faced off against 4,000 points of CSM and 2,000 points of Daemons. It was a crazy battle! I couldn't keep track of all the Daemon Princes all over the board! Heavy support choices and HQ choices, it was madness! I was tempted to make a call to Titan to call in some Grey Knights for back-ups! (Ironically, one of the CSM players used 3 GK terminators as proxies for a unit of Obliterators!) We used a 10' x 4' table and we were pretty crammed in but used enough terrain pieces to block line of sight, etc.

One of my buddies, special ordered a unit of Thousand Sons and a Sorcerer Lord just for this battle! He was super gluing metal torsos to plastic legs right before the game began. Jerk! But I had a plan for him... special thanks to Wolfbane for the insight! I took Arjac and teamed him up with Njal! Quite the combo! Arjac dropped podded into the front of the battle line with a pack of 4 other Wolf Guard Terminators. Arjac flung Foehammer at the Sorcerer Lord causing an unsaved wound and reducing the Sorcerer's initiative to 1. Njal, just behind the battle line, used line of sight from his Chooser of the Slain and successfully got off Jaws of the World Wolf, forcing the Lord to take an initiative test, which he promptly failed and SWOOSH, he was gone from the battle field. I was so pleased! My buddy was not... he was speechless! It was an amazing moment. Karma is a harsh mistress! But I realized just how incredible Arjac is even without the combo! He was a beast! He slew another random Chaos Lord in hand to hand and generally mopped up his end of the battlefield! I usually take Njal and another generic rune priest so I was impressed at his combat prowess!

I also took a unit of 5 Wolf Scouts with 2 plasma pistols, 1 meltagun and 5 melta bombs. The managed to get behind enemy lines right behind a Chaos Land Raider. Since they couldn't assault, they blasted the rear of the LR with the melta gun! I scored a penetrating hit but only managed an Immobilized on the chart. So the 14 armor beast still had 3 hull points but couldn't move or pivot. I wasn't assaulted the next turn because my opponent was more concerned with the Wolf Guard that had dropped down in front of him. My 5 melta bombs only managed to take off another 2 hull points before I was forced to move on...

The battle line collapsed in front of me and I was forced to redeploy my Long Fangs to take advantage of better fields of fire. I love snap shots! They were able to move and still bring down some opposing troops! Very impressed with my Long Fangs performance! My Lascannon/Missile Launcher pack dealt with Daemon Princes and a Defiler, while my all Heavy Bolter Pack made mince meat of various pink and purple daemons! Of course the unsung heroes of the day were my Grey Hunters, who mopped up squads and secured objectives. Overall, I was very satisfied with our performance.

My list was roughly: Njal, generic Rune Priest, 10 Wolf Guard including Arjac (with 2 assault cannons in TDA!) and 1 drop pod, 3 packs of 10 strong Grey Hunters, 2 packs of Long Fangs, one with a HB razorback, and a pack of wolf scouts. The 5 Wolf Guard not in TDA were scattered in the rest of the packs. It was a solid force and worked well in conjunction with my 'allies.' We managed to carry the day, thought we weren't able to finish we decimated the opposition. All in all, a solid day for the Space Wolves and the Loyalists!

I hope you are experiencing similar results with your battles! I love 6th Edition!

I love to be in a battle like that! Congrats on the fun that you had.

1. Njal, just behind the battle line, used line of sight from his Chooser of the Slain and successfully got off Jaws of the World Wolf

Not sure I understand this one. Jaws does not need to roll to hit and you don't get los from the chooser just an improved BS or did I miss something in the FAQ?

Thanks for the comments! It was great fun! I love these big games! It was sort of fast and furious so we may have missed some things... I didn't realize that the sorcerer only had one wound. I was told that he had 3 wounds? He was supposed to be a Sorcerer Lord? Oh well! He got sucked back in to the warp in any case! Or more correctly swallowed up! @Lord Ragnarok: Njal's LOS was blocked, but you are right he didn't need LOS just had to be within 24", etc. And when I wrote that Njal got off JotWW, I meant that he passed his psychic test and the power went off... sort of disappointed that I potentially wasted that JotWW when Arjac should have just slain that feeble sorcerer with one blow of his Foehammer! Though it was priceless to see my opponent's face when he realized that he had to pass an initiative test with initiative 1!

My daemon worshipping buddy is building his Slaneesh "lawnmowers" currently, so I expect to be facing them soon! Back to the painting table for me!

@Runesch: Where does it state that you take the initiative test on the unmodified initiative? In the new rulebook, the concussive USR state that a model hit by one of these weapons reduces the initiative to 1 until the end of the following assault phase. (pg35) The rules for characteristics tests (pg7) don't say anything about testing on the unmodified characteristic... Naturally, the game I played is over and I can't go back and change things, but I would like to play correctly...

And speaking of playing correctly... The Chooser of the Slain!?! In my group and in my experience, and we may be wrong, we have always allowed line of sight from the Chooser of the Slain. So in my situation during this game... Njal was within 24" but didn't have LOS, however he did have LOS from my Chooser model. Can he make the attack? A careful reading of the Chooser entry, it appears that LOS from a rune priest AND the Chooser allows for increase of BS. period. We have always used the Chooser to allow the rune priest to "peek around the corner" and fire off a psychic shooting attack. It seems that we have been playing that wrong... any thoughts or comments? Maybe this is just leftover from previous rules for the Chooser... I can't recall...

I wanted to try the Arjac/JotWW combo - which from what I gather is a legitimate tactic. Get hit from Arjac's Foehammer, dropping the enemy to Initiative 1 and then hitting the same enemy with JotWW forcing the enemy to test on Initiative 1. So is this a valid tactic or not? I know it may be a bit cheesy but some of these daemon lords/princes that I face are super cheesy with crazy always hits weapons and crazier never gets wounded armor! That is a slight stretch to be sure, but not far off... I like to play a fun and fluffy list and almost always take 15 footslogging Blood Claws with a Wolf Priest babysitter and a WGPL if I have the points, but I need something to keep these power gamers at bay! Thoughts and comments?

Under Characteristic tests is states that the test is taken against the models profile "Roll a D6 and compare to the relevant characteristic in the model´s profile" where the LD test is taken against the modified LD "Roll 2D6 and compare the result to the model´s Leadership"

regarding the Chooser, it increases the BS when both have LOS to a target, i cant see anything saying you can use its LOS to cast powers.

But if you and your gaming group dont mind, i dont either =) when everything is boiled down, if you had fun i dont mind at all.

Thanks for the quick responses! And oh yes, we had tons of fun! How can you not have fun, when that many dice are rolling? :P

So it would seem that the Arjac/Jaws combo is NOT valid! Hmmm... I am so disappointed! :( Though I won't give up using Jaws or Arjac! I am a firm believer in both! And I will have to be more aggressive with my rune priests...
