How to kill Swarmlord, 2 Flyrants and 2 Tyrants

Recommended Posts

So, one of my local GW's have decided, for whatever reason, to field this list at 1,250pts. Don't ask me about biomorphs, I have no idea. Probably rolling default powers, although its entirely possible they'll swap for Biomancy or something.

Equally strange, they want legit armies to fight it. I was going to go Draigo+Solodins with warding staves, but then I did the points and realised that would be rather dumb...

So, instead, I'll be fielding this;

HQ:

Librarian w/stave, Divination

Terminator Inquisitor w/hammer+psycannon, Divination

Troops:

(2) Justicar w/halberd, Terminator w/Bro Banner, 2 x Terminators w/hammers,

2 x Terminators w/halberds+psycannon, 4 x Terminators w/halberds

More dudes, more fighty, more psycannon to chew some wounds off them before they close...and I have a decent chance to Deny with the hood (except against Swarmlord, IIRC he's Mastery 2).

The only thing that really gives me problems is the Swarmlord. He is slow, but Turn 3 will probably see him charging in (he'll be Running every turn he can). His natural I6 matches my halberdiers, so I might just go for the challenge (Justicars have halberds, so hopefully under 'Prescience' re-rolls, I get a wound past his 4+ invul and take him down with me).

I'd like to open up on that note; are halberds strictly better in this kind of insane matchup? Swarmy is forcing re-rolls anyway, so the 4+ won't be too reliable...however, against the other Tyrants, 4+ invul is going to reduce their kill output a lot.

Here you go,

Cotaez

2 x 4 acolytes

3 x Storm Raven

IG Company Command

10 Vets

3 Vendettas.

1249 points will wreck those tyrants hard core, focus fire the flyrants, and then open fire on the rest.

As to your list, it will do ok so long as you only fight 1 tyrant at a time. Hood won't help too much due to the fact that assuming the biomancy swap you cannot stop any buff powers.

A rad grenade Xenos Inquisitor with prescience, running with a pack of DCAs would be my preferred method of attacking him in CC.

They are WS5, same initiative, 4 attacks each on the charge, with power swords (AP3).

Alternatively, take a Hereticus Inquisitor with psyocculum, a space monkey or two and a bunch of heavy bolter servitors. BS10, 36" range, maybe rending (depends on what the monkeys give you).

The local 'nid player hates Callidus Assassins as well, says they are mean, I7 and the ctan phase sword make a nice combo. He runs a deathleaper just incase.

I think my answer would be Draigo, 10 pallies and 5 pallies. 6 psycannons at range should mess up which ever target you aim for :D

That comes to 1220 leaving 30 points, or lose the 5 man squad for a Solodin and a psycannon inquisitor with prescience, leaving 180 points to spend :D

Draigo is mastery 2, so 4+ dispel for his unit vs anything other then the swarm lord.

A 1015 point deathstar should be able to take on most things. Don't know if it could take a charge from the whole nid "army" but it should be able to remove a unit at 24inches. Dual bone swords would hurt, but that means no lash whips, which suck. Look out sir can be abused too :D

And yes, I love paladins.

my answer would be to NOT play the dude that wants to use 5 HQs against a standard FOC list. this is clearly NOT a legal army and any games that you play against him regardless of the table top outcome would be a win for you since he is cheating.

Thanks for the responses guys.

FYI, this is the redshirts at the store posing the challenge. Not just some random guy.

I'm starting to lean more and more towards Draigo. He will eat the Swarmlord handily.

I'm thinking this will work. Combat squad doesn't hit hard enough to kill off a Tyrant in one go, so I'm going to do two medium-size Paladin squads;

HQ:

Draigo

(275 points)

Terminator Inquisitor w/hammer+psycannon, Divination

(110 points)

Troops:

Paladin w/Bro Banner, 2 x Paladins w/halberd+psycannon,

4 x Paladins w/halberds

(450 points)

Paladin w/Bro Banner, 2 x Paladins w/halberd+psycannon,

3 x Paladins w/halberds

(395 points)

20pts leftover, maybe buy psybolts or something (or master-craft the psycannons).

Draigo joins the 6-man squad, Inquisitor joins the 7-man.

5 termies, psycannon, bro banner, 3x halberd, 1x hammer @ 250

5 termies, psycannon, bro banner, 3x halberd, 1x hammer @ 250

5 termies, psycannon, bro banner, 3x halberd, 1x hammer @ 250

Malleus inquisitor, tda, psycannon, psyker @ 110

Malleus inquisitor, tda, psycannon, psyker @ 110

Or:

Inquisitor Coteaz @ 100

10x warrior acolytes, 3x plasmagun, 7x bolter @ 77

10x warrior acolytes, 3x plasmagun, 7x bolter @ 77

5 paladins, bro banner, 4x halberd, 2x psycannon @ 340

Most likely will ruin his day.

First of all: it is very funny. Let's remember that this is a game, what does it mean "regular army"? Their is a "regular" way to have fun? There shouldn't.

We had similar ideas at our game club and they all ended up to be really funny ^^.

The the army.

I think it's far simplier than this. My list would be:

Draigo

Coteaz

10 Paladins with 4 master-crafted psycannon, apothecary, banner, warding stave

1 Solodin

These are 1200 pts. No need for the other 50 (:D), but I would master craft all the melee weapons for the deathstar but the banner and the solodin hammer.

If Coteaz doesn't take full overwatch+counterattach with divination, then just give counterattack with grand strategy.

The solodin is there just to make the list legit, keep him "in the center of the deathstar" so he can counterattack.

Buy also a couple of swords, so you can boost them to 3++ in cc if Coteaz rolls 4++ with divination.

Believe me, this list can't lose from five nids monstruos creatures, even with if swarmlord is among them. Actually, I'm wondering how many it can crush before dying...
