Nurgle Obliterators Project - 9th and final installment

Recommended Posts

Well, I'm finally done. I set out months ago to create some uniquely Nurgle themed Obliterators. I set my sights on creating 9 of them (a full compliment for a single FOC) and tonight I put the finishing touches on the last one. I put a link to the ongoing project here too to see the progression of these guys over time as well. Commentary and criticism welcome - the goal and intent was to have something fun and unique but to also improve my green-stuff skills (I'd say I'm a mid-level capability level with GS).

That is some tasty looking green stuff work my friend! You almost make me want to try my hand at plague ridden traitor scum........ almost. I have too much on my plate with my boys in blue and a dark eldar army that just keeps staring at me accusingly.

How long does it take you to do that kind of sculpting? And if you are mid-level then I am not fit to even look at a ball of green stuff! Really impressive and can't wait to see what you've got in mind for the paint-job.

Wow ; absolutely love it. Amazing GS work. I would say the base needs more stuff to match it to the great model but that's personal preference or you may be adding stuff. Also, not 100% on the head - perhaps it could have some stretched flesh to connect it more to the model. Overally though, fantastic work and my points are probably personal preference.

Is all the base armour done in one single layer?

Love it. Keep it up

@Febelcrofas: Thanks! I'd say each obliterator is probably 20 hours of work. It's somewhat hard to judge as it requires a little bit of work and then waiting for the GS to cure, so it's actually all totalled a little less than that, but in terms of actual work time I'd say 20 hours spread out over a week's time (darned real life getting in the way, heh)

@Wing Wong: Thank you for the feedback! The number of layers depends on the section - the torso, details on thighs, and the grieves are all done in a single layer. The shoulders in particular are done in multiple layers to build up the base of it then add detail. In particular the left shoulder was done in 2 stages, the ridge on the edge of the armor being the 2nd outer layer, worked on after getting a solid, dried GS base to mold upon.

You can see a detailed tutorial on how I made these in general here:

I like your bases suggestion - might have to put some of those new plastic nurglings on the bases of these bad boys.

Good suggestions, thank you!
