The Eternal Host

So I've been tinkering with an idea for a DIY SM legion (more on this later)... Here's what I have so far:

Legion Name: The Eternal Host

Homeworld: Chronos

As you may have guessed, these guys are going to be very time themed, so I'm thinking their chapter symbol will be a triquetra with a circle http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm...-interlaced.png. Eventually, I hope to flesh out an IA for these guys but for now all you need to know is that they revolve around the idea of spending lots of time forming intricate battle plans so that when the time for war comes they attack swiftly and with minimal losses. As a result, there's going to be a strong focus on Fast Attack and Elites

Bearing in mind, the themes described above, I need to devise a suitable colour scheme. I was thinking grey (a sign of age) might be dominant but I was also thinking of having another colour scheme for the last (8th) company (screw the Codex, there will only be 8) who have a stronger focus on FA - something similar to the Ravenwing.

The reason I've decided to do only 8 companies is because the number 8 looks like the infinity sign.

Here are some colour schemes I've come up with so far:

Thoughts? Any other suggestions?

Being that the triquetra has a more celtic vibe, and your army has a more greco-roman based heritage, I would recommend using the Oroboros instead.

As for color schemes, so far they all seem a bit bland and the third one looks very close to being a space wolf. When I think of Chronos, my mind goes ancient mediterranian, more specifically around these two different palettes:

Based on the first image, I would consider some mediterranian hues, like more aquamarine injected into the greys (maybe pure hawk turquoise for the eyes) and/or a shock of white or silver embellishment. For the second image, I guess the coloring is a bit more obvious. Anyways, just my two cents.

I was thinking of going for the Ouroboros route but was unsure because it's already taken by Thousand Sons... maybe a serpentine Ouroboros with wings (Chronos is depicted with wings)? I was also contemplating an hourglass, but I'm not sure how I could make that work and that's egyptian anyway.

Hawk Turquoise? That's an idea. It immediately reminds me of "Aquamarines" http://www.philipsibbering.com/wh40k/10-05...uamarines.shtml. I don't want them to look like a bunch of pretty boys mind. I need some grim, dark 40k in these fellas.

Any other opinions? All C&C are greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

EDIT:

Something more like this? The PA is a 50:50 mix of Sotek Green (Hawk Turquoise on the conversion chart) and Black. I didn't like the look of the eyes being a similar colour so I've left them red:

LMAO, whilst I want them to have certain dark look to them, I also want them to appear somewhat noble and honourable. After all, they are SMs, not some raggedy guardsmen.

Perhaps, more of a bone colour?

Or stone... Or if your painting skills are up to it, you could try an oxidation effect similar to those coins by using he GW ogre kingdom's tarnished armor as a guide.

Whatever the case, I'd grab about 5+ spare models and start trying out color schemes irl. I recently started a diy chapter and the paints do not translate well from pc monitor to actual model.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to any spare models because I don't have them with me (new accommodation) not to mention I only have paints from the old range. Whilst I do have a WIP knight titan on me, I don't want to "test" on that. Not to mention, if I change the colours I choose, new paints could go to waste ^_^.

EDIT: I don't even have undercoat atm and can't get any for at least a week.

Wrote a really detailed reply, firefox crashed. :D So, summary:

1. Paint the side of a plastic cup or something, sometimes you have a good scheme on the painter, you paint a model up, see what you have created, and a part of your soul curls up and dies.

1 ii. With regards to wasting new paint, this is just to test out mix/layers combos.

2. Don't put too many layers on your models testing things out. They will look like they have gone over to Papa Nurgle.

3. Hot vodka is the only way to fix it if you do, whatever everyone else on the internet seems to think.

4. Boiling vodka, open glue pots, an enclosed space and licking paint brushes for too long without a break results in very non-codex marines.

5. Ultrasmurfs look like :cusss, particularly the companies with lime green or ultramarine trim.

5 ii. *rant*

6. I need to learn to read other people's posts better.

7. Yes, that last picture is exactly what I was thinking.

8. At this point I realised that your comment about wasting new paint could mean that you might change your palette entirely, realised how many words I had wasted if that was the case and despaired so hard that firefox killed itself in sympathy.

Or, in short, yes.

@Orlunu - lol, I suppose it doesn't help that I'm fairly used to painting plague marines then, and isn't that a waste of perfectly fine vodka?

@Nephilim - Presumably, that's because they have a similar name to the EC warband "The Flawless Host"? I was thinking of making them loyalists for the moment. Perhaps, later down the line I will reveal fluff on how they've turned to Chaos... In fact I've already got a few ideas on this.
