The cream color is a nice, solid base layer with good shading. I can't tell too much about the highlights as the pictures are a bit blurry and the light is a bit bright. As a side note, dig into the painting forum here and photographing minis- it'll really help these shots.

What I'm really seeing is some fantastic base coating. I'd say work on the highlights, especially the blacks. The black you are using is a "true black", and it's a color you almost never see in the real world. Mix another color in the black so that its not "true black", but a shade there of. You'll be amazed at how much better the blacks will contrast with the rest of the mini when you do this.

These guys would look great on any table even if you did nothing else to them.

As a WIP these are looking great.

I assume some of the black is a base for the metalics to come (ie boltgun). If not like Tamwulf has suggested it needs something more.

The reds need a bit of depth with inks and highlights and the oath parchments may get a little lost if you are not careful as they are only a slightly darker version of the armour colour - have you considered going for a light grey instead?

@Tamwulf: I may try off-black on the sergeant's banner and shoulder shields. Which colour would be best to add? Dark brown?

@Brother Kovash: This is my proof of concept squad for others to follow later. Thunder Hammers are near the top of my list for the next squad. I'm trying to match the bone colour of the first Deathwing squad featured in White Dwarf.

@Elmo: The red highlights should be done soon. The brown areas are intended to compliment the bone colour and will be shaded with ink. I'm also going to be shading the white areas of the feathers and dagger pommels with light grey.

Any comments or suggestions are appreciated!
