Gaffy
Hi, Over the past few months I've been building a rather respectable force of Space Wolves, and really enjoy how they play - and the versatility they offer. Now after finishing my Masters, I really have some time to pour into my force, and im really tempted to build a small ally detachment og Imperial Guard. Mostly to get access to the infamous Vendetta gunship, to try and remedy one of the sore spots in my lineup; anti-air and/or heavy firepower (apart from longfangs). And I get an excuse to name it AirWolf (love puns, and play everytime i field it) :) Thats all well and good, but a HQ and Troop choice is also needed - and I'm a bit unsure as what to take. I had thought about a Primaris Psyker; but then I saw that they don't have acces to Divination, and my plan to take one as a backline buffer kinda went down the drain. I guess that kinda leaves me with the Company Command Squad for HQ - but how to equip/use them. Or I could take a Primaris Psyker, take some of the new powers (biomancy/porymancy) and attach him to one of my Grey Hunter squads going up midfield to provide buffs. To my understanding a popular choice for Troop would be a Veteran squad, with some plasma rifles in a Chimera. So it would be something like: CCS: 50 pt or PP: 70 pt Veterans, 3 plasmaguns + Transport: 170 pt Vendetta: 130 pt Brings the total cost to 370 point - not too shabby for what I get? And perhaps down the road, I could and a Leman Russ battle tank for fluff and that lovely pie-plate Any comments, inputs and experiences with allying with guards would be most welcome! :woot: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/258803-allying-with-ig-what-to-take/ Share on other sites
G. A. K.
your on the right track IMHO. I use IG for the vendetta too but I also use them for the vets in a chimera to hold home objectives, I give them a lascannon in addition to the shorter range guns (1 melta;gotta kill those tanks, and 2 plasma) because if the tank is still the las can shoot normally, to keep it still I take a defense line and a icarius lascannon. finnaly I take the Lord Commisar (BS 5) to man the gun and join the Long Fangs who also use the defense line. 1 HQ 1 troop 1 fast, and your done with them. Chef Wulfen
Not to jack the OP or anything but I run a heavy and I mean heavy tda list and I was looking at doing my IG with a lot of las cannons. But as I have never ran IG I'm not sure how to go about this. And what about using some of the special charictors(sorry can't spell lol)? Belfast
Bell of lost souls had a really nice write up about which army would be best as an ally and they had some nice recommendation for IG. The article is from the perspective of power in a vacuum (aka power gamers) so it may not be exactly what you're looking for. Iacton Qruze
I run a primaris as my HQ, and go biomancy for the powers. He sits in a GH pack, and has always caused trouble, either for casting endurance on my TWC or for casting iron arm on himself and being one more wrecking ball in the squad. I just run vets right now, due to the limited IG models I have, and though they don't do a lot, sometimes they throw a wrench in my opponent's plans, but at least they always sit back and keep an objective nice and stable. and then my vendetta, obviously.
