Veteran Sergeant
The paintjobs on those bases are awesome, and your models are great. I like seeing Night Lords without the silly bat wings all over the place. But... who fights on lava? Seems... unnecessarily dangerous. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/258900-obsidians-night-lords/page/2/#findComment-3243675 Share on other sites
thedarklordobsidian
Thanks for the comments everyone! But... who fights on lava? Seems... unnecessarily dangerous. I'm not to concerned about the infantry fighting on Lava, It's the tanks that there's no chance of explaining so shall we just go for "artistic license" Sorry for the phone picture, this is the best I can do at the moment, but I thought I'd show the latest thing I'm working on. I'm almost done painting it, just the backpack and some small details left, I hope you all enjoy! http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m595/jrdragonetti/2012-12-19232402.jpg Happy Christmas! Daemon2027
To just agree with everyone else, they are looking really good, and the bases are fantastic. The sorcerer is coming along really well. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/258900-obsidians-night-lords/page/2/#findComment-3265238 Share on other sites

thedarklordobsidian
Thanks for the comments guys! I hope everyone had a good xmas, I managed to get some modelling done over the holidays, and have some visual delicacies for you all. I got this built and primed yesterday. http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m595/jrdragonetti/DSC_0004.jpg http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m595/jrdragonetti/DSC_0003.jpg And today I started painting. http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m595/jrdragonetti/DSC_0007.jpg http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m595/jrdragonetti/DSC_0008.jpg http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m595/jrdragonetti/DSC_0011.jpg I also got a second present, and normally I'd suprise you all with a teaser, but theres nothing I can do that won't give it away, so heres the start of the base work. http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m595/jrdragonetti/DSC_0014.jpg Sorry for the phone images, I'll take some with my proper camera at some point. thedarklordobsidian
So, I finished the Rhino. Observe... http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m595/jrdragonetti/Night%20Lords/Rhino-Left-Side.png http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m595/jrdragonetti/Night%20Lords/Rhino-Right-Side.png http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m595/jrdragonetti/Night%20Lords/Rhino-Front.png I discovered a way of painting gold from doing this which is about 20% faster than my current method, with more striking results IMO, which of course brings me to the point that I will be doing this method for vehicles wherever necessary from now on... may have to go back to the hellbrute at some point... So I couldn't resist getting a section of the helldrake done, everythings basecoated, but I wanted to get my gold on as it were. http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m595/jrdragonetti/Night%20Lords/Helldrake-wip-2.png oh and finally, I made some progress on the defiler, all basecoat work and initial wasing is done, now I just need to get my act in gear to do the rest! http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m595/jrdragonetti/Night%20Lords/defiler.png Cheers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/258900-obsidians-night-lords/page/2/#findComment-3278228 Share on other sites
Palak
Really nice work. For the bases, my Necrons are mounted on them and it really makes them pop up on the tabletop. Being attracted by the Night lords side, I'm interested in the way of painting this dark looking gold. How did you get that result? thedarklordobsidian
Really nice work. For the bases, my Necrons are mounted on them and it really makes them pop up on the tabletop. Being attracted by the Night lords side, I'm interested in the way of painting this dark looking gold. How did you get that result? I use Vallejo Bronze for the base of the gold, then give it a liberal wash in Nuln Oil, I then bring some of the shine back by using some of the bronze watered down, then it's edge highlighting with Auric armour gold followed by small dabs of mithril silver for extreme edge highlights. It's cut the time I spend on gold down so much as before I would mix all these paints together to blend, then I realised that I'm not aiming for golden demon so I simplified the recipe to give me the most striking results.
