Vallejo Heavy Bluegrey

Hey all,

I'm still trying to get my space wolves painted to a colour that I like and I'm just wondering has anyone tried using the vallejo extra opaque heavy blue-grey when painting theres?

Its meant to be similar to fenris grey but I'd like to check before buying some.

Anyone have any advice on how to get a nice colour that has blue tones to it but doesnt turn out like the baby blue marines?

Cheers

Oy, clean up up that mold line on the left hand! it's very stark.

Otherwise, smooth gray. I think that works. Make sure you paint the furs brown and not white or gray or black. It'll give your wolves a good contrast, as opposed to other wolf-pelt colors. ^_^

I'm not a big fan of the Heavy Opaque line. Doesn't like to thin very well and it's a struggle as its either too thick or too thin.

The Heavy Blue Grey is meant to be the counter part of Astronomicon Grey, but comes off much darker. It is closer to Fenris Grey.

My stuff is based with Heavy Grey (which is very dark, but greenish) which is supposed to be Adeptus Batte Grey. It is more realistically a cross of Adeptus Battle Grey and Charadon Granite.

Amusingly enough, (and credence to the rumor) Russ Grey/The Fang and Heavy Blue Grey are VERY similar. So it could work for you, though I'd drop some Nuln Oil washes on it.

That's much more grey than The Fang is....The Fang is almost a Crimson Fist/Night Lords Blue in actuality.....I tested that on mine thinking it might work well but it wasn't what I wanted. Adeptus Battlegrey is what I settled on personally.

As for your colour you have in your pics I gotta say I like it.....

I know it is not the heavy blue gray but I have been experimenting with a 3:4 mix of black gray (vmc) and sombre gray (vgc) from vallejo. The photos I have make it more blue than gray since I haven't used my good camera for them. I will try to get some this weekend and put them up for you to see. Looking at them in normal light they are sort of a wet concrete gray with a bluish cast. I also have some london gray that I am going to try as well so I have a simple mix.

After spending the last several hours working on marines and switching over to my work schedule from my weekend schedule (I work overnights and have been up nearly 24 hours at this point) I found that the battery for my good camera needs a charge. :)

The color I have mixed up looks similar to the fang, but is a shade or two darker. With lighter gray edge highlights and a wash it seems to be a decent compromise between pre heresy and the current GW scheme. It also doesn't go all wonky with different color pelts. Hopefully I can post WIP pics tomorrow after work for your persual.

Sorry for the delay.
