TheDevourer
Greetings brothers! Coming Saturday I am contending the last 5th edition tournament in Germany, which is being organised by me and the gaming group I'm in. It is a doubles tournament with each player fielding 1111pts. I will be fighting alongside dark eldar and to be honest I believe we have a fair chance at hitting the top of the table! So here comes my question: I was planning on taking some pictures and if anyone would like to see pictures or battle reports I would be honoured to post them here. Just want to know if anyone is interested due to it being quite a bit of work and all :) Let me know if you are interested =) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/259023-last-5th-edition-tournament/ Share on other sites

TheDevourer
Ok here it goes. I will try to recall what happened in all the games. The tournament took place in my garden. Game 1: Space Wolves/Dark Eldar vs Eldar/Blood Angels 5 objectives, secondary mission: 1 extra point per killed hq Thankfully I had already played against this list twice in order to practice for the tournament. The armies belong to two members of my gaming group with whom I play on a regular basis. Ok The practice games turned out 1 win for us and 1 for them. However the first turn was imperative for a swift victory. We rolled off first with 2d6 scoring a 4. However, our opponents only managed to roll a 3 leading to us having first turn. We quickly set up using the rhinos and razorbacks as shields for the dark eldar vehicles. The Longfangs took up their positions in two ruined buildings http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild004.jpg http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild005.jpg http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild006.jpg The Opponents set up a majority of their tanks in the center hoping to give the Eldar falcon decent cover in order to protect Eldrad. Eldar walkers stalked the woods on the right flank and to the left khaindar glared down upon their foes from their vantage point in a ruined building. A flamestorm baal also took up position to the far left. http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild001.jpg http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild002.jpg http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild003.jpg The scout move then took place. The baal predators rushed forward and popped smoke giving their brethren cover saves in the center aswell as rushing toward the entrenched long fangs. We were all set to start our first turn, but a decisive blow was struck. Our opponents seized the initiative and thus began with their first turn. The all important shooting phase ended in a disaster. We had lost a ravager, 8 longfangs and the other ravager was stunned. All in all a terrific blow to our lists fire power. We had lost nearly all long range anti tank immediatly. In our turn 1 we manouvered ourselves carefully into position destroying a wave serpent and the enemy vindicator. The odds were not in our favour. http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild012.jpg Turn two saw us lose yet more dark eldar vehicles aswell as a squad of grey hunters that was accompanying the rune priest. The rhino they had been inside was obliterated by fire dragons. Our turn saw us destroy the war walkers with the remaining 2 long fangs aswell as 1 dark eldar cannon (3 S:5 ap:2 shots) which took out two walkers that were in cover. Our opponents shook their heads in disbelief. The ravager opened fire and destroyed the flamestorm baal. Lances from dark eldar transports also accounted for a predator, a wave serpent and glanced the falcon. The trueborn destroyed the khaindar stalking the ruined building. In turn 3 the scouts arrived and killed a unit of jetbikes aswell as immobilizing a baal predator enabling the wytches to tear it apart with mines. By turn 7 all that remained was a single falcon which held an objective thanks to the dire avengers being transported inside. Whereas we still had a majority of our army. But due to us only having one troop choice the game ended a draw. 10:10 and a victory point difference of 830 pts in our favour. http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild020.jpg All in all I was happy with game 1. The opponents list was very powerful, aswell as the opponents themselves being good players. The loss of first turn however may have cost us the game if we wouldn't have annihalted so much by turn 3 by pure luck. Then it was time for a short break before our next battle. This time it would be against Grey Knights and Imperial Guard! TheDevourer
Space Wolves/Dark Eldar vs. Imperial Guard/Grey Knights Mission: Killpoints Secondary: Table Quarters To be honest with you we felt bad about the opponents army lists. Three Hydras, a Manticore, Chimeras, Vendettas, a Stormraven and Terminators. I mean we basically gave up on the Dark Eldar vehicles surviving for long straight away. Those Hvy Bolters, Auto cannons and lascannons would chew right through them is what we thought at first. Once again we didn t get first turn. While setting up I screened the Dark Eldar vehicles with my transports again hoping that at least a few would survive due to cover. We played a Spearhead deployment type meaning that when the opponents set up the storm raven was already to close for comfort. http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild021.jpg http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild022.jpg The Imperial Guard shielded their tanks with a wall of veterans hoping to deny my scouts. The 2 vendettas sped ahead alongside the Stormraven which was transporting a squad of purifiers, a tech marine and a brotherhood champion. We lost a razorback, and a few weapons on the dark eldar transports due to amazing cover/invulnerable saves being passed by my team mate. http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild023.jpg http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild024.jpg In our turn I took out the stormraven from the fire points of a frey hunter rhino using my 2 melters. The trueborn then let loose on the squad inside killing all but the brotherhood champion in a hail of poison darts. The long fangs also took down both vendettas, killing a couple of veterans aswell as a member of the command squad in the process. The opponents next turn saw a ravager explode due to the sheer volume of fire from hydras. The manticore immobilized the incubi transport and destroyed the weapon off another transport. A rhino was then immobilized by the vindicare Assassin. In our second turn the wolf scouts arrived and made short process of 2 hydras. The brotherhood champion refused to die as fire was directed at him from inside the rhinos. The imperial guard veterans and command squad were torn apart by trueborn munitions and the final hydra lost its turret to concentrated fire from the long fangs. In their turn 3 they tried to kill the scouts, but to their horror the attached wolf guard survived the fusilade of plasma and las gun shots fired upon his squad. The vindicare fired at the immobilized rhino hoping to destroy it, yet he only managed to destroy the storm bolter. The terminators stoically advanced in order to control the bottom left table quarter. The brotherhood champion assaulted a squad of my long fangs and tore them apart with his anointed blade. http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild024.jpg http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild028.jpg http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild025.jpg In our turn the terminators lost two of their number to overwhelming firepower and the wolf guard assaulted the manticore ripping it apart with a howl of rage before falling to plasma fire the next turn. My Grey hunters disembarked preparing themselves for an assault by the grey knight terminators. After a short struggle they found themselves 4 men down. However, the terminators had lost all of their brethren. The remainder of the game saw us contest and capture all table quarters and nearly take down the remaining imperial guard. The only survivors on the opponents side were a couple of imperial guard veterans and a sentinel without weapons. http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild030.jpg http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild032.jpg So all in all 20:0 for us! I must admit that our dice were doing very well whereas the opponents decided to take the day off. We won the game with a 1400 victory points lead. And then we found out who our next opponent was. We were to play against the team that had 2 20:0 victories so far and we were fairly certain would win the tournament! the team consisted of Necrons and Chaos Space Marines. A nasty lash list in combination with wraiths. This was our great chance. We were second at the time and had a fairly good chance of staying at that position. We calculated that we could even come first if we somehow managed to scrape a 17:3 in our favour. Anything else would mean that the others would win the tournament. TheDevourer
Space Wolves/Dark Eldar vs. Chaos Marines/Necrons Mission: Objectives Secondary: Most Killpoints Ok so set up was as follows. Place a central objective worth 4 Points and roll a scatter dice. And place 2 Objectives alongside the central objective at 18". These were each worth 1 Point. This has got to be one of the most enjoyable games I have had so far in 5 years of playing warhammer. Kudos to our opponents it was a fun match. Even if you tore us apart :P So we rolled off for first turn and managed to get it. We deployed to the far end of our corridor which was 12" away from the line on which the objectives lay and streched backwards a further 12". The long table edges were the reserve edges. Seeing that the Necrons were fielding an overwhelming amount of Wraithes we deployed at least 18" away from their reserve edge to deny them assaults if they entered from the reserve. We hid as much as possible and planned on surrounding the central objective with vehicles and thus stopping our mech light opponents from getting within 3" of it. Our opponents then more or less suprised us by only placing 6 Obliterators, 5 warriors and an overseer with the equip that makes them choose when nightfight takes place (sorry this was my 4 th game against the new necrons so I'm not solid on what everything is called). Their positioning was brilliant and denyed us the ability to shoot at them during the first turn thanks to the night fight rules. In their turn they destroyed two ravagers, taking out a large part of our firepower in one devastating lascannon volley. http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild033.jpg http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild034.jpg The second turn saw the scouts arrive and heroically butcher all but one of the obliterators before succumbing to two daemon princes that arrived from the reserve. http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild035.jpg Turn three saw me utilize my trademark move on two of my rhinos by immobilizing them after one difficult terrain test. http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild036.jpg http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild039.jpg The enemy reserves swarmed the table. And all in all our inability to take down the wraithes with 3 turns of 56 poison rounds and 8 missiles firing at them cost us severly. By turn 5 we tried to at least slavage ourselves some points by denying the mid objective, but the horde of wraithes easily destroyed everything in their path. http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild041.jpg http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild042.jpg http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild043.jpg And here they are the proud winners of our tournament http://i1145.photobucket.com/albums/o504/TheDevourer1991/Bild045.jpg Note the self cast trophy, made by a member of our gaming club. We all mourn the loss of the statue. But maybe we'll win it back at the tournament our two opponents are organizing in december! All in all a very enjoyable tournament, especially the after show party  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/259023-last-5th-edition-tournament/#findComment-3154526 Share on other sites
