Power Fists vs Power Axes

Apart from cost and modelling reasons, what is the advantage of taking a power axe over a Power fist?.....both strike at initiative......trying to decide whether the axe is worth it on my Chaos Terminators...

the power axe gets +1A for dual ccws, in terms of chaos terminators you dont get the pistol so a fist is probably better tbh

On TDA, yeah might as well get the Fist as you won't benefit from the +1 attack either way. On normal troops though, the axe is superior for killing MEQ. Here is a copy of what I posted when we talked about this over in the BT forum

Here is some Axe vs Fist Mathammer against MEQ

On the Charge (if you take AAC)

Axe - 4 attacks = 1.333 dead

Fist - 3 attacks = 1.25 dead

On the Charge (without AAC)

Axe - 3 attacks = 1 dead

Fist - 2 attacks = .8333 dead

Off the Charge

Axe - 2 attacks = .667 dead

Fist - 1 attack = .416 dead

Of course this was geared towards BT Initiates, but you can see that with more attacks the axe wins ever time.

this thread lists some pretty interesting points on power weapons in the new version of 40k. depends on what you're after too, axe is great for taking on powerful infantry (nobs, necron lords etc) and you'll at least get +1A with another ccw, whereas a fist will be better used for tank killing. on tda models, i'd say the same principle applies, just that they can walk through better even when under fire.

the axe can also be combined with a second ccw, for example another type of power weapon for the additional attack (for only 5 points on the fist) giving you the option to strike at initiative with the one weapon, or hit with the axe at I1 and AP2

That would be 30 points (assuming both cost 15 pts). Interesting Caveat is that 2 specialist weapons (Fist and claw, for example) still add +1 attack. So for 40 pts, you can have 2 weapons that are both more likely to wound, and have the same stats otherwise. If you really want the pistol (understandably), i see this being a good debate. If i didn't care about shooting, i would always go claw/fist over sword/axe.

I think the clincher is how much you really need that +3 strength (for MEQ) at 10 points. If you want to kill tanks..welll actually just get a Chinafist for another 5, but for me the value of a Power Fist is

a) Instant Death to MEQ

 Easier wounds on Monstrous Creatures 9typically T6)

So I rather like them since I mostly fight Angels (both the Blood and Dark varieties) and Tyranids. Then again, for me it's always Thunder Hammers so...
