Drunken Angel
I am bumping this up because of the new chaos codex, almost all chaos Sgts and sorcerers etc etc seem to be required to challenge now either with marks or whatever. Point is once the chaos guy challenges and wins he rolls a on a boon table and all of a sudden I have some evil chaos sgt running around with a 2+ save or some terirble high initiative. I have reduced my priests now to only one or at the most two in a list, often with an axe for the Initiative step on assaults keeping him back till the last. I face chaos a fair bit and have decided I will never leave home without at least one storm shield Sgt carrying either an axe or a PF. Point is the squad that gets the PF/SS sgt is the one escorting the priest or HQ. Forcing a chaos player to avoid the Sgt in combat is a real headache for chaos. SamaNagol
Why not just take a cheap LC/Sword sergeant and trade simul-kills with the Chaos Champion? Chaos 'Sergeants' can't buy any invulnerable saves anyway furthermore. That leaves your Priest to smash face with Power Fist or Axe at I1. I'd only take a Storm Shield on a unit that has hidden Power Weapons as the Sergeant is generally obliged to challenge and leave the other guys to put the work in on the squad Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/259043-building-a-better-asm-sgt/page/4/#findComment-3213555 Share on other sites

Even though he is I1 the Sgt will get his unvun and FNP the chance the PF will instjib a multiwound sorcerer is a problem for the chaos guy he cant hide his HQ from a challenge like we can. CitadelArmyGuy
Wow. I had a heck of a game tonight, my BA-IG versus SM-BA. Something came up in that game that I feel is worth sharing. So there I was, running Mephiston who just claimed First Blood by slaying a Scout squad. Along comes an Assault Squad with a Librarian looking for a counter-assault, and I wonder what my opponent's thinking. Well... Sergeant with Stormshield issues challenge, I must accept. I slap him for four wounds, and he fails two... then gets re-rolls from the 10 models cheering him on and passes both! That SS Sarge goes on to tank Mephiston for four more assault phases, while the Librarian casts Prescience to other shooting squads nearby. The 'bystander rerolls' means he was able to Fix Mephiston for more than half the game. I felt chagrin, because he had nothing in his list that could actually touch Meph so I thought he had no answer to him. Surprise huh? So next time you're facing down a Daemon Prince or other lone-challengeable model, remember that Stormshield actually has a pretty interesting usage. Morticon
very smart. Limited uses though, but still a nice trick to have up one's sleeve ! CitadelArmyGuy
...Limited uses though, but still a nice trick... Completely agree, very limited. Just enough of a small extra use to perhaps scrounge points for a SS slightly more often though. Using to fix Chaos MCs is what I'm mostly thinking about. appiah4
Storm Shield & Lightning Claw sergeant for RAS does indeed sound quite good to me.. I'll model mine with a combat shield and call it a SS or a CS depending on points.. Deschenus Maximus
I've abandonned giving sergeants wargear completely, personnaly. That way I can throw them under the bus/decline challenges all day long and not give a crap. The points saved allows to get more boots on the ground/better fire support.
