Deathwatch Modelling

So I"m thinking of building a small marine force in Deathwatch livery. But given that various chapters make up the deathwatch I satred wondering. I know that they all have a shoulderpad with their chapter symbol on it but do they also retain their chapter's usual way of dressing? SO would a Dark angel in the deathwatch still wear robes, a black templar a loincloth, a space wolf fur and runes etc and a blood angel still his boobie nipple armour (or whatever the proper term is for that one  )?

Ofcourse I know that if I really want to I should do it as they are my mini's but I was just wondering whether there was any info on the matter in resources somewhere. Any help is appreciated.

Hey fellow Dutchy! Not sure how this ended up in the noble Grey Knights Sub-forum, but here goes:

When a Battle-Brother is inducted, he brings his own armour, and paints it most of it black to symbolise their new role in the Deathwatch. They normally (Black Shields not including) keep their right shoulder pad in their original colour to both still show the their chapter allegiance, and to keep the machine spirit of their power armour appeased. Their left shoulder pad and sleeve is replaced with the silver Inquisition variant, which they get to keep when they return to their chapter.

While most of a marine's accoutrements are left behind to create a form on uniformity and unity in the mixed Deathwatch Kill Teams, it's quite common for a marine to keep a characteristic adornment of his chapter, such as a purity focus, devotion chain, tabard, pendant, ceremonial weapon, wolf pelt or robe. Note that such items as the 'nipple' artificer armour are normally reserved for members of honour guard or other such veterans and high standing members of a chapter, which could possible be far too valuable to be sent to the Deathwatch, so such items would be very uncommon.

As for sources, besides the internet at large, I can heavily recommend Fantasy Flight's Deathwatch RPG books. Even if you never intend to play the game, it has a wealth of fluff and pretty pictures. And we all love pretty pictures, don't we? ^_^

Awesome, thanks for the info :) . So if I get it right most chapter specific details are minor, such as wolf tails and the little incense burners that the da for example have rather than complete chapter specific outfits with their armour painted black and a different shoulderpad. I can think of some nice possibilities to make some nice variations in marines with only details.

And I'll look into the Deathwatch Rpg book, even if it's for a differen system, more background is always a good thing, nothing is better for getting a solid feel for the fluff of an army. And as for why the Grey knights forum, I did a search and quite a few DW topics came up here so I figured it would be the correct place to post it. Hope that was ok then
