Are you sure on that? I'm sure GW have recently issued a pretty serious NDA, and that means NO pre orders/ advertising for any releases till the right time i.e 25th August in this case. Fantasiapelit won't even let me buy the WD a day early, so I really doubt they're doing starter set!

I'll PM you the "details", I don't want them to get into trouble :(

In my opinion they've gone completely over the top with this one. I was in my local GW earlier today and the staffer tried to persuade me to come in on Saturday for the big announcement. Problem was he couldn't tell me what was going to happen, or why I should go to the shop instead of order online, because he isn't supposed to know those details yet! He even shushed me and looked a bit panicky when I used the words "Dark Vengeance".

The world's gone mad.

The amount of control they try and place on their employees and thus the employees attempting to place on us is pretty ridiculous. I was told once to keep discussions about tournament lists and what units are good/bad to a minimum while in the store because they didn't want me influencing the purchases some random kid might make. I'd have thought they'd welcome it considering most tournament marine lists require 10+ vehicles and a boat load of dudes carrying special weapons that aren't easily found.

Heh, favourite game is winding up GW shop staff,

Had the same thing,

Him -"Come in Saturday for big announcement"

Me -"oh you mean Dark Vengence"

Him - "What!? No! Don't know what you mean"

Me - "Really? Look at this Internet thread on my iPhone"

Him - "No! Don't want to see, put phone away!"

Lols what fun ( yes I am evil)

Dang it! I wish I had thought of having a shirt made that read "Dark Vengeance" or "Crimson Slaughter", with no GW or 40K iconography, and hung out at my local GW store the last few weeks. D'oh!

I used to work for GW and I understand to a certain extent why they are like that. Back in my day we had access to the company Intranet and we could look at playtest codexes and of course we all printed them out and brought them straight into the store. I remember having the old SoB playtest codex and it having squads of up to 50 Frateris Militia, telling customers about it, them getting excited about it/buying models, and then when it eventually came out as a WD Codex they were dropped and people who built the unit in anticipation being bummed out. The point of the story being that everyone that gets hired at GW is a frothing hobby nut and we can't keep our mouths shut/not show people the stuff we find/have access to. So many times I remember me or my staff flagging our friend customers over to look at something by the back room door while no one was in the store. We probably looked like we were selling drugs from the back room or looking at porn to the random mall walkers drifting by, all huddled at the back of the store talking in hushed tones.

The staff track record at keeping secrets is abysmal so might as well keep things under wraps until release time so they don't get people hyped up on something they think is coming and never does or takes forever.

I know what you mean xnickbaranx, having been in similar positions as both staff and customer. However that doesn't account for the craziness of trying to persuade irregular customers like me to come in at the weekend for 'something great' without being able to give me any reason at all to do so. Last week they put out a 2 minute video of some text telling us that something would be announced (not released, announced) a week later. The only rational explanation for all this is that GW have based their marketing strategy on the assumption that something will leak so everybody will know in advance anyway, and that shrouding it in melodramatic secrecy increases levels of hype in the customer base. As we're all here talking about it, maybe it works. ;)

I told the guy I might phone the shop on Saturday morning to find out if it's worth getting out of bed for.

Archangel, that's a brilliant idea. I wish you'd thought of it sooner too.

These models look pretty sweet. Another squad of Terminators would give me nine, so I could field a full compliment of TDA using all available troops and elites slots. I'm very interested in the bikes, since I plan on starting a Ravenwing army soon once my Deathwing is complete. The tactical marines will find a good home in my bits box until I see how the new codex takes shape.

Apparently the big hush-hush that GW has been pushing for the last little while is a term in their contract with New Line Cinema and was specifically meant for GW's new stuff for The Hobbit, but has been enforced, more or less, to all new releases.

I don't remember who i picked this tidbit up from, but it was here on the B&C in the New/Rumours or Amicus forums.

Back on topic, I'm super keen for the new set, I'm looking to pick up at least two of the Limited Edition's. It's good to see some new sculpts for the bikes with the updated bolters and fancy new exhausts. Not to keen on the Termi wings, they'll probs suffer the knife. I'm just hoping with crazy AU prices it'll less that $200AU, maybe $170-$180 is most likely.

Cheers,

Jono

don't bet your luck....over here in NZ, I have been informed it is at least 200 NZD at a GW store. oh well, at least I have a good indie nearby :D though may have to forfeit on my limited edition set.
