Stunning Mortifactors. The red you have used is perfect next to the bone and black. Love the Deatwatch squad, especially the Mantis Warrior.

Have you thought about vowing your new sternguard squad in the ETL painting challenge? Would be great to see the Mortifactors represented.

cheers

The Sternguard won't be getting any paint for a while. I have around 150 points in my list that I am experimenting with right now.  I tried out a GK dakka-dread for a while and it performed admirably.  However, my list still struggles against AV 14.  The Sternguard suicide squad (4 combi-meltas and a drop pod) may be what I need, but I won't know until it is field tested.  And since I am an exceedingly slow painter, I am not going to paint an entire unit until I know that it will be in my list.

Fair point, makes sense really. I struggled for AV14 penetration for a while too. I went for a dual multimelta landspeeder. Its a one hit wonder but not bad for 80pts. I still need something a bit more solid though. Hopefully when the new codex comes out lascannon devastators will be a little cheaper. A ten man 4 lascannon squad, split in two should give me a heavier fire base.

Anyway great work I look forward to seeing more of your work

In 5th Edition I ran mm-speeders, but thanks to the Interceptor rule and the proliferation of Quad Guns, deep striking a Landspeeder is now a a very risky venture.  Last Saturday, in back to back games, Captain Artemis (i.e. Pedro Kantor) manning an Icarus Lascannon, got two Turn 2 Interceptor Flyer kills (1 Storm Talon and 1 Dakkajet).

I too have high hopes for the next SM codex. The current version isn't so bad, but when compared to the newer dexes, it isn't as competitive as I'd like it to be.

I knocked out this Gun Servitor pretty quickly in order to get it ready for today's game.

My opponent played a Typhus plague zombie list (no allies).  It included two blobs of 35 FNP-Fearless zombies.  What a pain in the #$%^!

The game was most notable for the number of 1's rolled by both sides and the sheer ineptitude of our toy soldiers to kill one another for long stretches of time.  Typhus rolled a 1 for his daemon weapon 4 or 5 times.  Crazy.

On a happier note, today's game was the 3rd game in a row that Artemis got a Turn 2 Interceptor flyer kill with the Icarus Lascannon.  This time it was a Helldrake.

My forlorn hope Sternguard squad worked as planned. They podded down behind my opponent's ADL and killed a Chaos Predator Annihilator, lined up to take shots at the Icarus, scoring my 1 VP for First Blood. They died to the marine, but kept one of my opponent's Plague Marine squads busy for couple of turns.

Typhus and his bodyguard of plague zombies shambled their way across the battlefield.   They killed my Deathwatch squad, a Tactical squad, Captain Artemis (i.e. Pedro), and finally Inquisitor Baptiste (i.e. Coteaz), but not before Baptiste landed the killing blow on Typhus.

The game ended on Turn 6 and I won 12 to 6.

I'm still not 100% happy with the placement of Baptiste.  After 4 games of being attached to the Grey Knights and I put him back in the Chimera and he finally gets Misfortune as one of his psychic powers.  Grr!  Stupid Mindlock rule.   Also, the Grey Knights got bogged down fighting a Plague Marine squad, but with one lousy attack each, it took forever for them to destroy the squad.  Stupid FNP.  If Baptiste had been in the squad, his Prescience and daemon hammer really would have helped.

What I may do is drop the gun servitor, put Baptiste back in the Grey Knights, but leave an open spot in the Chimera, just in case Baptiste gets Perfect Timing.

I took photos with the intention of making a Batrep, but the bright sunlight coming in from a nearby window washed out a good portion of the photos, so I deleted the whole lot.

My game against the Typhus fearless zombie horde exposed a weakness in my list.  And since the Typhus list isn't the only fearless horde list out there, it's a weakness that I should address.  Swapping my Strike Squad for Purifiers may help with this problem. As an added bonus, because Purifiers are fearless, I don't have to worry about them running off the board with Coteaz, as they did in a fairly recent game against Orks.

Changing the squad to Purifiers also lets me add an Incinerator to the squad for free. http://i451.photobucket.com/albums/qq234/Lingling54/360.gifhttp://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New/nurglelittle.gif

And by shuffling around some points, I added a heavy flamer to the suicide Sternguard squad, so it can be tasked to important infantry threats like Lootas and Pathfinders.

I'm loving the mechanicus heavy flamer. Shame about the pics being washed out, would have loved to read another battle report for the army.

If you drop the servitors, what would you replace them with? or are those points used to change strikes to puris (Sorry dont have books with me to check relevant point costs)

To pay for the changes, I dropped the Servitor w/ plasma cannon and the Deathwatch w/ missile launcher.  The latter was the hardest to lose because I really love the model. This afforded me the Purifier upgrade, the heavy flamer, and an acolyte w/ plasma gun.

Well my first tank is finally done. I hate painting vehicles. I really do.

The highlight on the black is a mix of Eshin Grey and Abbadon Black. The highlight doesn't look quite as pronounced or as blue in person.

Once the army has been completed, I want to return to all the models and add minor battle damage to all the units. In the meantime, everything shall remain shiny and new. http--,,--//image.bolterandchainsword.com//public/style_emoticons/default/smile.png

'Praedator' is not a misspelled. It is Latin for 'hunter.' The letters on the placard are a bit squished together in places, but it was my third attempt at painting them so they shall stay a bit squished. Have I mentioned that I hate painting vehicles? sad.png

I don't know how I have missed this thread until now. Your Mortifactors are really great, as is your inquisition retinue. And I will get inspiration from your Deathwatch kill-team to build mine, if you don't mind !

I want to see more of these epic minis ! thumbsup.gif

I recently played against an Ork horde army. Over 180+ models in a 2000 point game.  Crazy.

Even crazier is that the army included 6 Grot Bomb Launchas.  And the guy didn't even ask me if I cared if he used Forge World rules.  He just put the models down on the table and told me what they do (1 shot S8 AP3 twin-linked, barrage, large blast -yikes!).  Oh well.  I've noticed that using Forge World rules marked with the 'Warhammer 40,000' stamp is becoming increasingly popular here in Seattle, so I played along without complaint.

The game was a real nail biter.  His 3 mobs of Lootas, 9 kannons, and 6 Grot Bomb Launchas gave him the firepower advantage from the outset.  Those stupid Grot Bomb Launchas forced me to keep almost half my army in reserve and put much of the rest of my army in hiding beneath the walkways of ruins for the first two turns.  If it wasn't for my Thunderfire Cannon, he would have won easily.  Instead, I managed to eke out a Turn 5 victory (8 to 6).  If the game had gone on any longer, I would have really been in trouble.

Adding the heavy flamer to my suicide Sternguard squad really paid off.  My opponent deployed a mob of 30 Boyz + Wyrd Boy as tight as possible behind some ruins in his deployment zone.  The Sternguard pod dropped on Turn 1, and the Sternguards' heavy flamer and dragon fire bolts killed 23 Boyz in one volley of shooting.  To add insult to injury, the mob fled off the table, dragging the Weirdboy with them.

My opponent was smart. He focused much of his fire on my scoring units, so near the end of the game I was sorely missing my Strike Squad.  I still believe that converting my Strike Squad to Purifiers is a good choice, but it has left me feeling a little short on scoring units.  However, I think I've come up with a solution. If I drop a Purifier and shuffle around a few points here and there, I can afford a second squad of 8 inexpensive Henchmen (thanks to Coteaz).  They won't add much to my army's offensive punch, but I can use them the same way that many Ork players use Grots.  Let them babysit an objective, preferably one in or behind cover, and if anyone shoots at them, they will go to ground.

I have an extra Acolyte that is already painted, so with the addition of these seven new recruits, my new Henchmen squad is ready for testing out on the table.

I don't know if you can make it out from the photo, but the model with the bandaged head has a toad in his hand.
