Koyote
Turn 4 Turn 4 was short but brutal. Aside from moving my GK Strike Squad in order to get LOS and range on Marbo, I don’t move anything. In my Shooting Phase my first target was Marbo, who was shredded by stormbolter and psycannon rounds. My attention then turned to the IG Vets and the remnants of the painted Battle Sister squad. Shots from my Henchmen Warband, Tacts, and Purifiers killed all the Vets and left only a single Battle Sister standing. My Razorback turned its guns on the Company Command Squad, but since it could see only the lascannon team, the heavy weapon crew was the squad’s only casualty. The Devastators shot at the Exorcist, but failed to even glance the accursed tank. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New2/br4m_zpsa9044a42.jpg Lorin began by moving his Seraphim (which are scoring in this mission) and Saint Celestine towards Objective 6. The sole surviving painted Battle Sister retreated into the safety of the ruins sheltering his Seraphim. On Lorin’s left flank, the last Repentia and the Battle Sisters’ Rhino advanced upon the Mortifactors’ line. Clearly, both had been sent on a suicide mission to threaten my flank and draw fire. In the Shooting Phase the Manticore let fly the last of its missiles, bombarding my lines and killing 2 acolytes and a tactical marine. The Exorcist targeted my quad gun, inflicting a wound. On Lorin’s right flank he focused his IGs’ fire on the Purifiers, slaying four of Titan’s heroes. At the end of Turn 4 the center of the board was empty of models and both armies were pretty beat up. I had the firepower advantage, but because of his full strength Seraphim squad and Saint Celestine, he had the mobility advantage. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New2/BR4n_zps8fd82fea.jpg VICTORY POINTS: Mortifactors: 6 Sisters of Battle: 4 More later… Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/259188-strike-force-baptiste-mortifactors/page/6/#findComment-3277560 Share on other sites

Koyote
I've decided to give a Dreadknight a try. It will replace my Purifiers and Razorback in my 2000 point list. Last Sunday I took the model out for a test drive in a game against IG with CSM allies. It performed well. I look forward to more testing. Here's a WIP of Dreadknight Roland. I didn't customize the model itself so I figured I'd fancy it up some with a spiky, skull strewn base. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New2/WIPDK1_zps71966a5d.jpg I've assembled the model so that it can be broken into 3 pieces for storage and transportation. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New2/WIPDK2_zpsfc6d8008.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/259188-strike-force-baptiste-mortifactors/page/6/#findComment-3278489 Share on other sites

Koyote
Turn 5 Turn 5 is where a couple of crucial die rolls really hurt me. Since the game could have ended at the bottom of this turn, I decided to put Captain Artemis’ Warlord Trait (i.e. model is scoring) to good use. I got a great difficult terrain roll for his move over the ADL so all that I needed was a mediocre Run roll to put him safely behind one of the mausoleums adjacent to Objective 4. I rolled a ‘1’. So rather than being completely hidden from Lorin’s guns and in control of Objective 4, the unfortunate Captain was more than 3” from the objective and exposed to Lorin’s guns. The same thing happened to my Purifiers. I moved them adjacent to the ruins behind Lorin’s ADL so that even a mediocre Run roll would have hidden them completely and given me a chance at the Linebreaker secondary objective. But alas, it was not meant to be. I rolled a ‘1’, which got them into cover, but left them exposed to Lorin’s shooting. The Tacts on my right flank had much better luck. They got a great difficult terrain roll, allowing them to capture Objective 3. This left them free to use their bolters in the Shooting Phase to gun down the sole surviving Repentia who, if left alive, could have contested Objective 3 during Lorin’s turn. Elsewhere, my Devs finally finished off the last functioning Exorcist and the TFC killed 3 guardsmen of the Platoon Command Squad. Despite losing more than half of their squad, the stubborn guardsmen held their ground. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New2/BR4o_zpsd2da243b.jpg Lorin began his turn by moving his last Battle Sister and his Seraphim squad out of the ruins and onto Objective 6. Saint Celestine left her bodyguard and moved towards the center of the board. Lastly, Lorin Tank Shocked the Tacts holding Objective 3. The squad passed its leadership test but was forced to move more than 3” away from the objective. In the Shooting Phase the Seraphim inflicted 2 wounds on the Purifiers and a pair of snake eyes for their armor saves ended my hopes for the Linebreaker secondary objective. The first IG lascannon missed Captain Artemis, but he second one was on target. I failed his 4+ invul save and he was taken out of the game, earning Lorin the Slay the Warlord secondary objective. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New2/BR4p_zps650719b2.jpg At the end of Lorin's turn we rolled for random game length and the game continued. Koyote
Turn 6 At the beginning of the turn a die was cast and the Night Fighting rules went into effect. This presented a problem, as I needed to clear Lorin’s scoring units (his Seraphim and lone Battle Sister) off of Objective 6. Both units were behind his ADL and because of the distance between my guns and their targets, both units were protected from a 2+ cover save (ADL + Shrouding). Fortunately for me, I had spent the extra point to purchase a searchlight for my Razorback and it was in the perfect position to light up the angelic Sororitas. In my Movement Phase I moved my Henchmen Warband up to the ADL. The Tacts were moved around the rear of the Sisters’ Rhino and to within 3” of Objective 3. The Grey Knights were moved to bring their guns within range of the Seraphim. Lastly, the Razorback reversed its engines and moved into cover behind the ruins. In the Shooting Phase the Razorback fired on the Seraphim and then illuminated the squad with its searchlight. Next, the Psykers in the Henchmen Warband targeted the Seraphim with their psychic barrage, but I rolled double ‘1s’ for their psychic test. The power manifested, but all the Psykers succumbed to the Perils of the Warp and died horribly, their heads exploding, one after another, like a string of firecrackers. To add insult to injury, their Psychic Barrage deviated and hit only 2 Seraphim. The Grey Knights, Devs, and TFC also lent support to the fire mission. When their guns fell silent, a single Seraphim was left standing. She took one look around her, failed her morale test, and hightailed it for the board edge. Given proper motivation, chickens can fly. :) Since the Seraphim are a Fast Attack, under the mission's rules their destruction earned me 1 VP. The Tacts holding Objective 3 took a couple of pot shots with their bolt pistols at the Rhino’s rear, stripping a hull point off the tank. In the Assault Phase they finished it off with their krak grenades. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New2/BR4q_zps9420dc06.jpg http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New2/BR4s_zps44cfdcdd.jpg http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New2/BR4r_zps9a00a551.jpg Lorin began his turn by moving Saint Celestine into easy assault range of the Tacts holding Objective 3. The IG Infantry Squad in the ruins adjacent to Objective 6 climbed down from the safety of their perch and captured Objective 6. In the Shooting Phase Saint Celestine unleashed a torrent of fire from her Ardent Blade, but the Tacts’ power armor protected them from harm. It’s too bad that their battle plate didn’t afford the same protection against the blade itself. In the Assault Phase Celestine struck down 3 marines. Stunned by her angelic presence the last marine failed to land a single blow upon the Saint. However, unlike the Seraphim, when faced with certain death, the last Tact refused to run. :P http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New2/BR4t_zps35a26ffb.jpg At the end of Lorin's turn we rolled for random game length and the game continued. Koyote
Turn 7 The only action in my Movement Phase was to move my Grey Knights forward a bit to draw LOS on the last Battle Sister. With the Night Fighting rules still in effect, I had to rely on my Razor’s searchlight to illuminate the IG Infantry squad holding Objective 6. And like the Seraphim before them, I threw almost everything I had at the hapless IG squad and it was obliterated. The Grey Knights gunned down the Battle Sister, leaving Objective 6 uncontrolled. In the Assault Phase, Saint Celestine cut down the last marine from Tactical Squad Roman, leaving Objective 3 uncontrolled. Lorin used the Saint’s consolidating move to move the model towards Objective 1. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New2/BR4u_zps49887956.jpg By moving a single model, Lorin checkmated me. Lorin used Saint Celestine’s jump pack move to place her inches away from the Tacts holding Objective 1. He flamed the unit with the Saint’s Ardent Blade and killed one marine. In the Assault Phase, Celestine charged the remaining marines, slayed one more and suffered no wounds in return. The (Stubborn) marines passed their morale test, but it made no difference, Objective 1 was contested. In true heroic fashion, Saint Celestine single handedly swung the VP total from 7 to 5 in my favor to 6 to 4 in Lorin’s favor. Well played sir. Well played. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New2/BR4v_zps20d09f65.jpg FINAL VICTORY POINTS: Mortifactors: 4 (1 objective + 1 destroyed FA) Sisters of Battle: 6 (1 objective + First Blood, Slay the Warlord, and Linebreaker) Note: In our haste to set up and get the game started, we failed to thoroughly read the rules for this mission's Primary Objectives. We played the mission as if each objective was worth 3 VP rather than the objectives having different VP values. Koyote
The weekend after I played Lorin, I played against another friend's Traitor IG + CSM allies with a Coteaz-Dreadknight variant of my list. The list worked wonderfully, but still, I can't help but think about ways to tinker with it. I've decided to squeeze some points out of the list by dropping 2 Devs. With the extra points I added more firepower to the list. First, I upgraded one of the Dev's missile launcher to a lascannon. I've also replaced the melta gun in my foot-Tacts with a plasma gun. Lastly, I added a Daemonhost to my Henchmen Warband. One third of the the time this will give the squad an extra shooting attack, but that's not the sole reason for the change. I am going to use a Medusae model as a count-as Daemonhost. The model's robes and chains make the Medusae fit into my Henchmen Warband quite nicely and the enslaved xenos' presence will help emphasize the squad's Ordo Xenos theme. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New2/WIPHW1_zps6956c03b.jpg Oh, and during B&C's shutdown, I painted the Coteaz version of Inquisitor Baptiste. Inquisitor Lucian Baptiste -Ordo Xenos http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New2/Baptiste1_zps48445db6.jpg http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New2/Baptiste2_zpsb85f16b3.jpg http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New2/Baptiste3_zpse7e5097f.jpg http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New2/Baptiste4_zps8a181a65.jpg I stuck, primarily, to colors within the army's established palette of colors. Even though the Inquisitor is clearly not a Mortifactor, my goal is to use these colors, wherever possible, to visually tie all of the army's disparate units together into one, semi-cohesive force. I chose black and metal for his battle plate in order to tie him to the other Ordo Xenos models in the army, the Deathwatch Killteam. Also, as a radical Inquisitor, I figure he'd prefer colors that are more sinister and practical, quite different from his more puritanical counterparts. No flashy gold burnished plate for this guy. Even the Inquisition 'I's on his ring and hanging from his belt are painted as plain metal. The book chained to his backpack is the Tome of Anandua (from my first SoB batrep) and the Eldar grenade hanging from his belt signals that he is radical Ordo Xenos Inquisitor. Baptiste's henchmen are the next project for my painting table. http://images.deviantart.com/emoticons/icon_painter.gif Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/259188-strike-force-baptiste-mortifactors/page/6/#findComment-3280433 Share on other sites

Koyote
Are you going to do a full report on the other game or did you not manage to get the pics etc? I didn't take any pics of my game against the Traitor Guard & Plague Marines. I really should of. His army is fantastic. He's a good painter and his conversion work is top notch. Here's some shots of his WIP Plague Marines: http://i584.photobucket.com/albums/ss285/Sherbertork/Death%20Guard/IMG_0710.jpg http://i584.photobucket.com/albums/ss285/Sherbertork/Death%20Guard/IMG_0711.jpg http://i584.photobucket.com/albums/ss285/Sherbertork/Death%20Guard/IMG_0712.jpg Next time he's in town, I should arrange a proper batrep game... Then again, aside from your post, I didn't receive any feedback on this last batrep, so I question whether there exists any interest among B&C members to see future batreps. They take quite a bit of time to put together. Time I could be spending on painting. http://z6.ifrm.com/8152/110/0/e5017366//e5017366.gif Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/259188-strike-force-baptiste-mortifactors/page/6/#findComment-3282969 Share on other sites

Those WIP shots are amazing. I'm very jealous of your group, you all seem to have such amazing models. Koyote
Thanks guys. On the psykers, where did you get the skulls on the bases? they look a lot more realistically sized compared to most gw skulls I see about GW sells, in its Warhammer Bitz section, a Pack of Skulls kit. It contains 32 individual skulls (including 4 Ork skulls), one large clump of skulls and two smaller clumps of skulls. http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2470876a_99809915012_PackofSkulls_445x319.jpg Over the years I've put together around 20 objective markers. I have at least one for each 40K army type. This way, no matter who my opponent is, I have at least one objective that matches his or her army. Recently, I used the large clump of skulls from the Skull Pack to make a simple Khorne themed objective marker. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New2/WIPKObjective_zps66aa7bce.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/259188-strike-force-baptiste-mortifactors/page/6/#findComment-3284232 Share on other sites

Koyote
Last Sunday, Dave Taylor posted this amazing addition to his Adeptus Mechanicus army.http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/Walpurgis/mechanicus_zpsb5084498.jpgInspired by this conversion and a bit disappointed with my Dreadknight model, I've decided to steal Dave's idea and build something similar to serve as a 'counts-as' Dreadknight. I've already established that Inquisitor Baptiste is a radical Ordo Xenos Inquisitor, so it's not much of a stretch to imagine that he would use his influence to repurpose alien technology. Like Dave's conversion, I want to give it a Mechanicus feel, so it doesn't seem too out of place among all my Imperial troops. The use of Imperial style exhaust pipes and rivets is a good start. I may also steal the Ogre head idea. However, unlike Dave's conversion, I want the Mechanicus pilot to be operating the machine from a recessed cockpit, most likely standing up. I plan to mount it on the Dreadknight's oval base using a standard flying stand, so matching the DK's footprint and height shouldn't be too difficult. Matching DK's bulk may not be as easy, but I'll do my best to match the DK's dimensions. I do not want to give myself an unfair advantage when it comes to drawing LOS to my counts-as Dreadknight.More Pics of Dave Taylor's ConversionBest of all, I found on eBay a Dark Eldar Talos, NIB, selling at half GW's price for the kit. I'm also toying with the idea of ditching all of my Grey Knights models and replacing them with Herakli (heavy skitarii) 'counts-as' models. Somehow, to me, mixing Space Marines with Ordo Xenos elements and Adeptus Mechanicus elements seems less incongruous than mixing Space Marines, Ordo Xenos, and Ordo Malleus. It will also allow me to include more novelty and conversions into the army.Micro Arts sells a number of Iron Brotherhood models. It appears as if the HTTP-05 models are larger than the -01 models. This bulk will better symbolize the GK stats. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g219/Hortwerh/Adeptus%20Mechanicus%202007/AdeptusMechanicusarmy641.jpgOf course, I will have to replace the -05s' arms and armament, to better represent storm bolters and nemesis swords. I may also cover up their bare chests with armor sculpted from GS. As for my Inquisitor and Henchmen Warband, ten models down, two to go. http://z6.ifrm.com/8152/110/0/e5006631/e5006631.gifhttp://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/New2/WIPHW3_zps2b9894c9.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/259188-strike-force-baptiste-mortifactors/page/6/#findComment-3291951 Share on other sites

spafe
They look pretty damm cool. Was there much detailing that needed to be removed on the medusa model? Once again, another "high quality" Finecast model from our friends at Games Workshop. The plastic Grey Knights are indeed amazing models, but if this is going to be a showcase army, I want to include as much conversion work as possible. I'm going to hold onto the GK models, and like you, likely use them as an Allied Detachment for my Blood Angels.
