The Boys In Blue

Here lie my attempts at creating the 2nd Company of the Ultramarines, led by Sicarius.

Hi! With the arrival of 6th Edition my gaming group have decided to get back into 40k! I decided to give myself a challenge and after listening to my friend harp on about how awesome Space Marines are. every. day. ever. He convinced me to put aside my prejudices, I'm a xenos kinda guy, and read the codex.

I was surprised. These smurf fellows were... Actually pretty cool... Besides, it might be kinda nice to be saving humanity for once instead of stealing them back to Commoragh.

So without further ado. Pictures!

The first of the squad! Not too pleased with him, but after not picking up a brush in about 2 years I wasn't too unhappy either!

The sergeant!

And a close up of the shonky freehand work on his shoulder pad and his laurels.

The first combat squad, complete with accompanying Razorback.

And the obligatory tank-shot, who has fallen foul of poor photography and a not too steady hand.

So, here I am providing all you lovely folks with rather bad photographs and what do I expect in return...? Nothing! But some C&C would be nice! This is as much a place for me to track my progress towards constructing the entire 2nd Company and to watch myself get better as to get advice for my work, so advice is appreciated!

Thanks for reading!

Firstly a warm welcome to the B&C!

Now, on to your marines...A good start!

As LongFang66 said, drilling out weapon barrels will make them look a lot better.

I'll add some more advice:

1. Before assembling them, make sure you clean up mould lines with a good sharp knife or a file. There are prominent mould lines on arms and legs which you could remove with a little more time and work, which will make your marines look so much better.

2. Thin your paints a little. The blue on the first marine (particularly his left shoulder) and the white freehand on the sergeant's right shoulder look thick and uneven. Better to build up the colour with a couple of thinner coats rather than one thick one.

I home that helps!

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll bear that in mind! I'll have a hand at drilling out these barrels tonight, and hopefully with have the next half of the squad up sometime next week with freshly thinned paints. I'm hoping to build a 1.5k list over the next couple of months, and then from there moving on to getting the 2nd company done! Long term projects, yay!
