Thinking of Starting a Small GK Force

Just to let everyone know, I am not a new player(been competitively playing for over 6 years) and know that with my 3 armies I prefer(and am very successful with) full foot soldier lists and crush my opponents with weight of fire. This is a huge change from my old style, but with 6th changes needed to be made. My main questions are for anyone on here that plays a primarily shooting Grey Knights force: what are the cheap and effective shooting units in your codex and how successful does a slow moving wall of psycannon fire fare against most armies? I know from experience that being on the receiving end of massed psyfire can hurt like hell. Like I said, I'm not looking to collect 13k of another army, just maybe 2k-2.5k force. Look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts. Thanks:)

I've not had good luck with standing and shooting with my Grey Knights. I simply don't have enough guys to put down the waves of fire I'm used too with Guardsmen. I've had much more luck getting stuck into CC.

That said there is only one guy in my army list who doesn't have the word 'dreadnaught' in the name of his armour....and he's in Artificer armour anyway. At 1500 points I'm fielding 17 models. Grey Knights are spendy when it comes to points and you will ALWAYS be outnumbered.

If shooty is what you're after then Purgation squads will give you significant dakka and let you shoot through cover like it wasn't there. Your opponent WILL forget that they do that. Henchmen squads can give you a lot of pretty cheap special weapons and if you take Inquisitor Coteaz then henchmen warbands count as troop choices. You can also field Jokaero weaponsmiths who do interesting things to other peoples guns and can themselves fire off a lascannon, a heavy flamer or a multimelta each turn. (Correct me if I'm wrong on the weapns, I don't have my codex to hand)

Lots of people rave about the psyfleman dreadnaught. Two twin linked autocannon loaded with psy bolts. I've never tried it myself but that's worth looking at for sure.
