lifter
Brothers, I am confused. When painting Techmarines as pilots and drivers and also Dreadnoughts they have the Adeptus Mechanicus symbol on them. I am however confused as to which side of the skull should be black and which should be white? Looking at the Adeptus Mechanicus symbol wherever available (http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Adeptus_Mechanicus) it is black (or mechanic) on the left side and white (or organic) on the right side. However, when looking at how GW does it on their actual models they paint the skull white on the left side and black on the right side. Here on the Stormtalon: http://cl.ly/image/0Z2T3i3l1M0S My question is simply which way is correct? Olis
I don't think a lot of people are going to notice whether you've painted the white on one side or the other, let alone care enough to point it out, but I do believe that you should follow your research - black on the left, white on the right. I reckon the example provided is either a picture that has been 'flipped' or where the resident painter fudged it and got it wrong. That would explain why it's 'wrong'. lifter
The thing is that I will know that I did it right or wrong ;) I have seen GW doing it white on left and black on right on noumerous models so they seem to keep that as a standard and I went back to look at the old Insignium Astartes and it actually shows the example Techmarines with the skull white on the left and black on the right but flipping further in the pages to "Honor badges" it shows the Machina Opus (the symbol we're talking about) with black (or mechanic) on the left and white (or organic) on the right. Olis
Then by all means follow what the fluff says. I would. :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/259333-adeptus-mechanicus-symbol/#findComment-3154328 Share on other sites
lifter
That's the thing. The fluff kind of shows both. When showing an example Techmarine he has the Machina Opus skull with white on the left and black on the right. But later when showing only the Machina Opus the skull is black on the left and white on the right. My heart tells me to paint it with the black on the left and white on the right. I'd feel more comfortable wearing it that way trying to pass through the ring of iron. ShinyRhino
I've always done mine with the white on the right, because it's easy to remember in rhyme. lol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/259333-adeptus-mechanicus-symbol/#findComment-3154461 Share on other sites
Venerable Jazzman
http://warhammer-art.ucoz.ru/_ph/48/2/833770222.jpg The mechanical side should be dark/metal, and the skull side white or bone, and then work outwards from there with the opposite colours?
