TrentL
So I have 125 Points to play with for my HQ Wolf Lord + Frost Axe or Wolf Lord + Power Weapon & Combi Weapon or Wolf Guard Battle Leader+ Stormshield + Frost blade (Frost Axe) Opinions? Wulfebane
I like the WGBL option best, since a WL would be hurting for runic armor... But I wouldn't give either one an axe due to their rare I5. MeatGrinder
A Wolf Priest would be superior to both options. TDA, combiwhatever. Gives preferred enemy (which now effects shooting), has a 4++ save basic, makes a unit fearless, comes with a power weapon by default. Pretty sweet value. Especially in 500pts. Personally I'd lean towards a Rune priest with runic or terminator armour. They're just too versatile to ignore in a game of this size. Divination powers are just too strong. A whole unit rerolling successful saves? That will decimate a 500 point list. Rerolls to hit? When you've only got a few squads firing, this can mean the differance between a single casualty and half a dozen. Runic armour 95% always > TDA for a Wolf Priest. And not necessarily better than a WL as they excel in different areas. My opinion was based on the options given, but if we're voting on preferred HQ, I'd go RP hands down. I tend to go with a more distance shooter RP in smaller games, as enemy long range options tend to not be taken (heavy weapons and tanks are expensive, yo!). Have him always out of range of the enemy and spam LL. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/259459-hq-500-point-game/#findComment-3156567 Share on other sites
TrentL
I agree a rune priest is the best way to go, but these are friendly games between starter armies. And while I've noticed that I:5 is pretty good.... if your fighting a bunch of 2+ armor... I:5 means crap... I could have chosen any gear for the WL or WGBL I magnetize things. Wulfebane
And while I've noticed that I:5 is pretty good.... if your fighting a bunch of 2+ armor... I:5 means crap... True, but (especially) in smaller games, the likelihood of seeing many 2+ armor models on the field is low. Generally it's reserved for an HQ or elite, and unless your opponent drops a squad of tda, the sheer amount of fire-power and attacks you can pour on them should win out against their saving throws... GKs perhaps being the exception. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/259459-hq-500-point-game/#findComment-3156750 Share on other sites
TrentL
Yes very true about that, and having I:5 did prevent my wife (Who was my opponent last night) from challenging because my Battle Leader had 5 attacks and I:5 and probably would have killed her Warboss before being attacked back.
